This ‘gorgeous’ Pinot Noir is an absolute beauty.

Crafted from some of the finest vineyards in the area, this wine is quintessential Russian River Valley Pinot Noir with its flavours of wild strawberry, black cherry, smoke and earth.

Russian River Valley is known for its cool, maritime influence, making the climate here perfect for the crafting of world-class Pinot.

With a massive 4.5 star score from Vivino users, this is a truly special wine and on offer today at 21% off the UK RRP!

Winemaker Paul Hobbs is celebrated not just by his peers but also by enthusiastic wine fans all over the world. He has a special skill for identifying the best sites and optimising the characteristics of the grapes that are grown on them.

With wines that have acheived the magical 100 point score and twice named "Wine Personality of the Year" by Robert Parker, Hobbs is a man at the very top of his game.

About the wine

A classic rendering of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, this wine offers a dark cherry hue and aromas of black cherry and bright strawberry. Rich, dark fruits dominate the palate, with accents of red fruit and complex undertones of white pepper and nutmeg. The fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity add layers and tension, accentuating the flavors and velvet-like mouthfeel for an elegant finish.

To make this Pinot Noir, hand‐harvested grapes are fermented in small, open‐top stainless steel fermenters with indigenous yeasts with a 5‐6 day cold soak, 15‐17 day average total maceration. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels, before the wine is aged for around 11 months in small French oak barrels (about 45% new). Finally the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.

About the winery

Paul Hobbs’ wines have legendary status. Some have even achieved that amazingly rare thing… 100 Parker Points! You’d have to say that Paul Hobbs is a man who had a rather good start in wine - his first sample being a 1962 Château d’Yquem, given to him by his Dad in 1969. It certainly set the bar fabulously high…

Just over twenty years later in 1992 the Paul Hobbs winery was founded and in 1998 he purchased land in Sebastopol, California which would become the Katherine Lindsay Estate. His first crush would take place at the winemaking facility there in 2003. The accolades, the perfect scores have rolled on in ever since and today he is famed as one of the world’s leading wine makers and consultants. This is a man who has built a career crafting wines that are noted for their balance, intensity and sense of place.

It is no surprise that he was once named California’s ‘most influential winemaker’.

About the vineyard

This Pinot Noir highlights the best of the Russian River Valley vineyards with grapes being sourced from a series of properties (Katherine Lindsay Estate, Goldrock Ridge Estate, Schell Ranch Estate, Gap’s Crown, Fraenkle-Cheshier, Donna Margarita ) in the area.

The Russian River Valley climate is defined by its proximity to the ocean, and is bordered by the Russian River and the Mayacamas mountains. Coastal breezes bring cooling fog through the Petaluma wind gap in the morning and evening, balancing the afternoon heat enjoyed here. This temperature differential creates excellent conditions to grow chardonnay and pinot noir.

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
