"I have almost unlimited admiration for the Guigals...Côtes du Rhône that are among the finest of the entire Rhone Valley"...Robert Parker

It's here! Just arrived from France, we are proud to be the first in the UK to offer the 2015 vintage of Guigal's Côtes du Rhône Rouge!

Consistently one of the wine world's greatest values and a Vivino favourite, vintage after vintage they produce one of the standard bearers for Côtes du Rhône.

However in great vintages it excels! And 2015 is nothing if not a great vintage...hailed by winegrowers as one of the best for decades.

The mark of a brilliant winery is not just their 100 point wines (Guigal have plenty of those), but how they treat their entry level wines. For Guigal it is a matter of faith that theirs, despite the large volumes made, should always be considered amongst the very best. And they go to every length possible to ensure that happens.

2015 is one of the best vintages yet of this excellent wine - make sure you don't miss out!

About the wine

This year saw the use of lots of Syrah from the Vinsobres region and it is this that comes to the fore. On the nose this is very aromatic and and full of black fruits  - blackberry, black cherry - with a hint of olive and a meaty, peppery spice that shouts of its high-quality Syrah origins. Rich, juicy and full-bodied on the palate, the fruit shows the ripeness you'd expect from such a top vintage. Polished and with surprising depth for a wine at such a low price, the fine tannins and long finish makes this exceptionally enjoyable to drink now - although I would be very interested to try it again in 5 years time as I think it has the structure and capacity to age nicely. Pretty amazing for the price!

Guigal favours Syrah as the major grape for their Côtes du Rhône Rouge, this is uncharacteristic for the region as many of the wines you'll find on the market are dominated for Grenache for its straight-forward pleasure. Syrah though, when well made, can offer a deeper complexity that blends beautifully with Grenache. Guigal are masters of Syrah and it is no surprise that they want it to stand out in this wine.

For an entry-level wine, the quality is incredibly consistent. But then this is meant as a gateway to the entire Guigal portfolio and as such, it must deliver an awful lot of bang for its buck! Guigal’s attention to detail is phenomenal and enables them to produce their highly sought after, tiny production Côte-Rôties, all the way through to their incredibly popular Côtes du Rhône.

About the winery

The grapes for this Côtes du Rhône blend come from various vineyards across the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée. Guigal have contracts with growers dating back decades and are well-known in the region for paying the best prices for the best grapes. Hardly surprising when you consider that they want this accessible wine to be an expression of everything good that they do.

About the vineyard

The Guigal story began in 1927 when Etienne Guigal arrived at Vidal-Fleury to work in the wine cellar. In time he would become the cellar master but he had dreams to go it alone in the wine business and this he did in 1946.

With his son, Marcel, the business grew, not just in size, but in reputation as well. Focused on the northern Rhône at that time, the wines rapidly became identified as some of the very best and today they are avidly collected by wine drinkers everywhere.

There is no magic formula. The Guigal success is all about hard work, attention to detail and natural winemaking flair.

Today Marcel Guigal has been joined by his son Philippe and the hard work continues, as does investment with new cellars recently built in Ampuis.

89-91 Points - Joe Czerwinski

"The 2015 Cotes du Rhone marks a terrific return to form for this cuvée. It’s intense and peppery, with concentrated black cherry fruit, a medium to full-bodied palate and a long finish."

90 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
"The 2015 Côtes du Rhône checks in as a final blend of 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre. It offers a juicy, Syrah-driven bouquet of ripe blackberry fruits, smoked meats, pepper, and hints of underbrush as well as a rich, medium to full-bodied, polished style on the palate. It has ripe tannin, plenty of mid-palate depth... it’s a beautiful Côtes du Rhône that will deliver the goods."

"
Very flashy, glossy Syrah on the nose. Bit of treacle but great richness too. Great gloss and balance. Racy. Energetic. This doesn’t taste very like southern Rhône! They specialise in buying lots which others don’t want. They seek slow-maturing well-structured Syrahs. This will be a huge hit!"

"Cherry ripe. Rich. Deep. Delicious."

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
