The heatwave may have broken for the moment, but don't worry - there's still plenty of summer left to go!

So make sure you're prepared and since there's little better than sitting in the sunshine with a glass of quality rosé, we highly recommend picking up a few bottles of this delicious rosé from Domaine Gavoty!

Family owned and run, Domaine Gavoty have been making wine since the early 1800's and eight generations of expertise, winemaking knowledge and passion have made it one of Provence's most respected estates.

Their top wine is the 'Clarendon' cuvée bottling - especially selected from the best vineyards and then from the best barrels before being blended into the final wine - this beautifully pale Provencal rosé.

A serious wine in its own right, as a rosé it is at the very top of the proverbial tree.

Dry, elegant and with a soft texture and weight that makes it perfect for drinking with food, this is excellent rosé for an excellent price- just £16.95 per bottle!

About the wine

This is quite a serious style of Provence Rose, there is a delicate balance between fruit weight and a savoury edge which makes it very enjoyable to drink. A full basket of fruits: peach, apricot, strawberry are evident on the nose and continue onto the palate as well. With a lovely soft, full texture supporting the fruit and a refreshing acidity joining some subtle spice on the long finish, this is a refined and elegant rosé.

Gavoty's rosés are made using the “saignée’’ method : the first juices obtained by gravity after maceration in a vat (3 to 6 hours) are blended with the very first pressings, which delivers great finesse and structure.

The musts are racked when cold and ferment in a metal vat at a temperature of roughly 17°C for between two weeks and a month. Selection is carried out in January, followed by blending. The best assemblage is selected to be the “Clarendon cuvee”

About the winery

Domaine Gavoty dates back to Roman times when it was named Campduny (meaning wine harvest fields in old Provençal), Philémon Gavoty acquired the property in 1806.

Eight generations have followed in his footsteps. André Gavoty was a literary journalist at the “Revue des Deux Mondes”, and handed over control of the estate to his nephew Pierre (1925-2006) in 1960.

Bernard Gavoty (1906-1980) was a music critic at the “Le Figaro” newspaper, writing under the pseudonym Clarendon. He inherited the Petit Campdumy estate, and went into business with Pierre to organize joint commercialization of wines from both estates: Petit Campdumy and Grand Campdumy.

When Bernard passed away in 1980, the Gavoty estate consisted of two properties of 50 hectares each. The strategic decision was taken to commercialize the estate’s wines via a traditional network of restaurants, cellars, business and individual customers. In 1997 the two properties separated (Bernard’s was sold off) and so production went down to less than 50 hectares.

About the vineyard

Located in the Trias sector, (Triassic plateau), the soils on the estate are clay and limestone, with a predominance of limestone for the hillside vines.

The stony soils become rocky in certain plots, making it impossible to work the soil. The wine plots are bordered by hills where holm oaks and common oaks grow, as well as pine trees, making them very attractive to wild boar!

The dry arid scrubland rubs shoulders with the vines, which in the middle of summer are the only island of luxuriant greenery.

The entire vineyard is contained on one piece of land, within the borders of the Cabasse municipality.

90 points - Wine Enthusiast
This stylish wine, made from old vines, is rich while well balanced with great strawberry flavors, acidity and a peppery aftertaste. Drink now. The wine is named after previous owner Bernard Gavoty, music critic for the French Le Figaro newspaper whose pseudonym was Clarendon."

"My favourite rosé ever, and the 2017 is right on the money. Gorgeous core of red fruit with just a hint of mandarin, lovely mouthfeel, refreshing acidity, and a long finish. Don't overchill it. Easily beats the 'fashionable' Whispering Angel and Miraval" 5/5 Stars

"Superb rose, crushed strawberries and spice on the nose, opulent red fruit in the mouth, nice acidity and remarkable length, A perfect Provencal rose for the table"  4/5 stars

"Always one of the top roses. Finesse, length, elegance"  4/5 stars

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.
