The Seifried Estate is the oldest in Nelson, a fine wine region of New Zealand’s South Island, and this delectable Sauvignon Blanc is the showcase for just how good their wines can be.

With experience dating back almost 50 years, this winery may be in a young country, but its wines show a depth of style and character honed over time.

The Aotea represents a selection of grapes which the Seifried winemaking team consider to be the very best of the best, harvested from single vineyard, estate-grown vines. Aotea Sauvignon Blanc 2016 demonstrates why Sauvignon Blanc is the star of the show in South Island. The wines offer texture while maintaining the varietal character of the grape - wines with depth and finesse.

With a host of great reviews and competition medals, you'd expect the Aotea Sauvignon Blanc to be be rather expensive...but no, this fantastic Kiwi Sauvignon, the best of the best at Seifried, is just £13.75 - an absolute bargain for wine of this quality!

About the wine

The 2016 Aotea Sauvignon Blanc has a powerful nose that is classic Kiwi Sauvignon. Ripe fruit elements with grapefruit and tropical melon are bright and flavoursome alongside crisp nettle and hints of blackcurrant.  On the palate, well balanced natural acidity runs the length of the wine and supports layers of flavours on the palate. Crisp, bursting with fruit and refreshingly dry, this is Sauvignon Blanc from the very top drawer.

Aromatic and fresh Sauvignon Blanc flavours were encouraged prior to vintage through careful canopy management. The fruit was de-stemmed and pressed immediately after harvest and a cool fermentation was initiated in stainless steel tanks to retain the clean, fresh aromatic fruit characters. In a vintage which had relatively light yields, quality has triumphed over sheer quantity and means this wine has delicious developed flavours now which will stay fresh for several years to come.

About the winery

First established in 1973, this family winery is a happy marriage of New and Old World: Hermann Seifried was from Germany, and his wife Agnes a local woman. They are still involved in the winery but today their three children are frontrunners in the business.

The founders were quick to realise the potential of the excellent and very sunny microclimate of Nelson, in New Zealand’s South Island. From very small and modest beginnings when Hermann and Agnes grafted the vines late into the night, to today when all three Seifried children have returned home to play their part in growing the family business. Seifried Estate is a company devoted to sustainable winegrowing and producing the very best Nelson has to offer.

About the vineyard

The Brightwater Sauvignon Blanc vines are grown in an extremely stony area of the vineyard, where water and nutrient levels are low. This helps us to restrict the plants vigour and to crop at low levels. To further enhance the aromatics we removed leaves to allow light penetration and air movement around the fruiting zone.

The Brightwater Vineyard is situated 15 km from the coast and is sheltered from the south by the Richmond ranges. The “soil” is a combination of rocks and boulders, which is very hard on the farm equipment, but vital for holding the warmth of Nelson’s sun and for ripening.

"
This is a familiar and engaging bouquet of fresh fruits with apple, grapefruit and tropical notes, some herb and bell-pepper, spring blossom and a touch of elegance. There’s plenty of acidity giving a crisp finish."

"
A particularly nice Sauvignon Blanc this from the Seifried family of Nelson, on the northern tip of the South Island. Bursting with grapefruit, passion fruit and gooseberry, there's a touch of elderflower, but no real 'green' character. That ripeness continues onto the palate, lots of peach and nectarine, but that zesty, fresh grapefruit zing of acidity powers the finish to a pleasing dryiness. Very nicely done."

"
Fresh and green (fruits and grasses) on the nose. Classic NZ Sauvignon Blanc aroma. Tastes pretty dry even with its 3.8 g/l RS and has very attractive lemon and lime freshness on the palate, which is more distinctive. Fresh and chalky on the finish"

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
