What a white wine this is! Virtually unknown in the UK, the fresh, fruity, mineral wines of Lugana on the shores of Lake Garda are in high demand across Europe.

And little wonder, considering the quality here for just £12.99!

Fresh, floral  and full-bodied, the Lugana di Sirmione is supple, generous and refreshing with a distinct almond note on the finish. It is something just that little bit different and a wine begging to be discovered and loved.

Avanzi are the only winery in the area that have the right to give this wine the Lugana di Sirmione name. The appellation is awarded to a very special, ancient vineyard called ‘Vigna Bragagna’ that has a particular, clay-dominated soil that imparts something that little bit extra to the Turbiano (aka Trebbiano) grapes grown there.

These are wines that should be much more widely known in the UK - take advantage of their relative obscurity while it lasts though and enjoy the fantastic value for money!

About the wine

This multiple award-winning wine is made from grapes sourced from the ancient vineyard, ‘Vigna Bragagna’ in the heart of Lugana, on the shores of Lake Garda. Here the old turbiana vines thrive on the clay-dominated soils.

It is a unique wine and accordingly the DOC Lugana di Sirmione is awarded to this wine and the Avanzi winery alone.

This Lugana is bright yellow with green tints in the glass. The wine is elegant with a multi-layered nose of peach, banana, apricot, tropical fruit and white flower and herbal notes. In the mouth it is soft and textured but remains lively and refreshing with a chalky minerality flowing into a juicy, fresh finish with a nice almond note. There is no wood involved, the wine stays fresh thanks to the fermentation on stainless steel. Full, powerful but also delicate: this is a delight!

About the winery

When Cavaliere Giovanni Avanzi first produced an excellent wine in 1931 with his grapes grown on the western shores of Lake Garda, it was the beginning of a success story that continues to this day. Since then, the winery has remianed in the hands of the family and now the third generation has taken the helm, contributing greatly to the further development of the winery, honouring the terroir and continuing the passion and tradition for the wines of Lake Garda.

With more than 80 acres of vineyards and olive groves, Azienda Agricola Avanzi produces the best wines in the Garda Classico and Lugana area. Special attention is dedicated to the land and the fruit grown there and the family remain deeply connected to the tradition of Lake Garda wines.

In 2007 a new cellar was opened with state-of-the-art equipment . The bottles are all underground, in a web of rooms and tunnels. Green energy is of paramount importance here and the estate's solar panels generate more than 25,000 kilowatts annually.

About the vineyard

The Vigna Bragagna vineyards are famed for their clay-dominated soils that give turbiana (aka trebbiana di lugana) their unique flavour. The wine from here is so individual that it has its own DOC, Lugana di Sirmione.

Lugana di Sirmione is a small town on the edge of Lake Garda. The vines are north-south orientated to maximise their exposure to the sun.

"Bright green with silver tints, a fine herbal spiciness, a touch of almond cake, tropical fruit, juicy, elegant, balanced acidity, orange notes on the delicate finish, along with an echo of minerality"

"Wonderful single-vineyard Lugana, 100% Turbiano from Tenuta Bragagna. Clay-based soils. Pale yellow with platinum hue: fresh, fruity nose of peach, pear and stone fruit. Taste reveals again pear and stone fruit, but also citrus, melon and subtle almond bitter. Beautiful tangy acidity, good mouthfeel"  4/5 Stars

"Another superb Italian white (and I usually am very critical against them). Robust and fresh at the same time, simple but gifted with extreme drinkability."  4/5 Stars

"Among the very best Luganas in my opinion! Quite straw-yellow, fruity and slightly "oily". Great pairing with seafood or as aperitivo with antipasti."  4.5/5 Stars

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
