"Brancaia produces modern classics” Stephen Spurrier, Decanter

Famed for their Il Blu, one of the best Super-Tuscans available, Brancaia are of Italy's leading estates!

Produced from their beautiful Tuscan vineyards, this 2015 Tre is a mini-Super Tuscan, a little brother to the Il Blu and at just £17.15, a fraction of the price...

Supremely classy, Tre is a blend of three grapes with the bright, fresh fruit of sangiovese taking centre stage, supported by cabernet sauvignon and merlot giving the wine some deeper, darker fruit and more body and structure.

2015 was an outstanding vintage and the absolutely perfect conditions are reflected in this wine which is laden with soft, juicy fruit joined by leather and spice notes that add complexity.

This is a wine that’s all about drinking pleasure in the here and now and is every bit as “bold, racy and super-expressive” as wine critic, Antonio Galloni describes!

About the wine

“It seems that everything is simply outstanding about the 2015 vintage” James Suckling

An extremely approachable, fruit-forward and moreish Super-Tuscan! Ripe and fresh, there’s a lovely floral, spicy and leathery frame that gives the wine extra focus. The addition of merlot and cabernet helps to round out the Sangiovese and gives the wine some darker fruit notes of blackberry and cassis as well as a rounded, plush texture. Velvety tannins give the wine structure before a long, soft, spicy finish. Delicious!

The wine is named “Tre” because it is a blend of three grape varieties sourced from three separate vineyards. The wine was aged for 12 months in two-thirds tonneaux (500 litres) and one-third in concrete tanks.

About the winery

In 1981, Swiss couple Brigitte and Bruno Widmer fell in love with the, at the time abandoned, Brancaia estate in Chianti and purchased it. Only two years later, Brancaia won first place in an important Chianti Classico tasting and since then they have never looked back, quickly gaining international fame for the quality of their wines.
This naturally led to an expansion of the business and in 1989 the Poppi estate (located at Radda in Chianti) was purchased, followed in 1998 by the founding of another Brancaia estate, this time in Maremma, only 10km from the Mediterranean coastline.

Since 1998 Barbara Widmer, oenologist and daughter of the founders, has been responsible for the winemaking as well as for the vineyards on all three estates - she is helped out by the consultancy of the famous oenologist Carlo Ferrini.

About the vineyard

The Brancaia vineyards cover three separate sites: two in Chianti, Brancaia and Poppi and one in Maremma, totalling an impressive 80 hectares.

In the simplest terms Brancaia has limestone clay soils and the wines from here are typically powerful and structured. Meanwhile, in Poppi the soils are lighter with good drainage and the fruit is generally more aromatic. Maremma wines have more sun-ripened fruit, benefiting from the Mediterranean climate and sandy, loam soils.

Il Blu is made from a combination of fruit from the vineyards situated in Chianti.

Attention to detail is everything and the vineyard team strive to deliver the best possible quality of fruit from every vineyard, year on year. It’s an impressive statistic that the workers spend over 450 hours per hectares in the vineyard until the grapes reach the cellar!

91 points - James Suckling
Lovely density and vibe to this 2015 red with cherry, strawberry and orange peel character. Medium body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Drink now or hold."

90 points - Antonio Galloni
"The 2015 Tre, Brancaia's Sangiovese-based red, is bold, racy and super-expressive. A rush of black cherry, smoke, tobacco and licorice infuse this open-knit, inviting wine before Sangiovese aromatics appear on the finish to add lift."

"Wow! Complex with a perfect balance...Love it! Great value for money!"  5/5 Stars

"Dark purple-red color in the glass! On the nose elegant, fruity with notes of amarena cherries, plums and coffee. On the palate elegant, juicy, well balanced with a long finish. Cheers!"  4/5 Stars

"What a great medium price range Tuscan IGT ... Sangiovese based with a bit of merlot and Cabernet ... let this breath an hour and the dark dried cherry accent with hints of tobacco and that classic “dustiness” we all love about well made Italian wine ..." 4/5 Stars

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.
