"Top five producers of high end Soave" New York Times

Soave is back! Arguably Italy's best known white wine, the region has been going from strength to strength over recent years, as some far-sighted producers realise their future lies in quality rather than quantity.

Ca'rugate are one of the top producers of Soave, winning awards and plaudits from the critics vintage after vintage, and the San Michele Soave Classico is the perfect introduction to their wines.

This is superbly refreshing Soave, replete with aromatic floral notes and a long, fine finish full of fruit and a mineral intensity.

Luckily for us, this drive towards quality hasn't impacted on the price, and this excellent white is available for just £12.99 - an absolute bargain!

About the wine

A light straw gold in colour. A fine floral bouquet combines with notes of spicy pear and apple and a touch of pepper. Crisp and zesty on the palate, this silky, elegant wine shows notes of sweet almond along with an almost saline minerality on the mouth-watering finish. An extremely refreshing wine and a welcome change from the likes of Pinot Grigio.

The grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures of between 16 to 18°C for approximately eight to 12 days. The San Michele is unoaked in style to preserve the freshness and purity of fruit.

About the winery

Ca'rugate is a family business that has been handed down through the generations of the Tessari family since the early 1900s.

The estate was renamed Ca'Rugate in 1986, taking its name from the volcanic hills where the vineyards are located. Now run by the fourth generation, Michele Tessari has brought with him a lively, passionate and entrepreneurial spirit.

Considerable expansion has taken place in recent years with investment in a new technologically advanced cellar and expansion into the Valpolicella area with the purchase of vineyards in the hilly zone of Montecchia di Crosara.

Ca'Rugate has been awarded the prestigious 'Tre Bicchieri' award rating from Gambero Rosso multiple times, making it one of the most awarded producers in the competition and has been hailed by the New York Times as one of the "Top Five producers of high end Soave".

About the vineyard

The Soave territory extends over hills, some with gentle slopes, others in steeper, rougher places where the vineyards alternate with olive groves and fruit orchards. The volcanic origin of the land and its limestone and basalt characteristics make the soil generous, capable of giving life and taste to the typical grapes of this region, Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave.

The San Michele Soave is produced in the area of Monteforte d’Alpone within Soave Classico, from a volcanic hillside vineyard where the soil consists of clay and basalt. The harvest takes place at the end of September when the grapes have reached optimum maturity and phenological ripeness

91 Points - James Suckling
"Spicy apples, pears and chamomile character. Medium to full body, tons of nectarine-driven, tangy fruit and a spicy, fruit-forward finish. Extremely delicious

90 Points - Ian D'Agata
"Luminous straw yellow. Apple, pear and herbs on the fresh nose. Then bright and juicy, with delicious apple jelly, pear reduction and savory herb flavors lifted by orange and lemony nuances. Long and clean on the finish which offers sneaky concentration and a multilayered quality. This wine highlights Garganega’s pear and yellow fruit aromas and flavors, rather than sharp citrus or green nuances more typical of Sauvignon Blanc or of early harvested grapes."

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
