Many people may not realise it, but for those in the know, Rioja is a source of incredible white wines.

Making up just 10% of the region's production, these rare wines are gold dust to their many fans - not just for their complex brilliance, but for their ability to age beautifully and their great value for money!

The best of these wines use oak aging to complement their fantastic, fresh, tropical fruit. The oak provides spice and structure and aging on lees gives the wines a rounded, soft texture with stunning length.

This Don Quintin Rioja Blanco is the epitome of great white Rioja - the fruit has all the qualities to shine amongst the oak; picking up the butter, vanilla notes and wearing them like well-chosen jewellery – helping to show off the tropical and white orchard fruits that are at the core of this wine.

At just £15.95, this is an incredible value and quite frankly, one that should not be missed!

Freshly arrived in the UK, we suggest you snap this beauty up whilst you still can...

About the wine

Don Quintin Ortega has terrific harmony; on the nose - ripe orchard fruits, orange and spice flavours sit neatly amongst buttery layers with a touch of honey. Something of a wine mille-feuille! Elegant and wonderfully tasty, this is a lush, textured wine with good structure from the oak and a fine, fresh backbone of acidity that makes it an excellent wine to drink with food. With mineral undertones, the wine is very long indeed, finishing with a refreshing touch of salinity.

The viura and malvasia grapes for this wine are sourced from the estate’s vineyards in Tudelilla, at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level.

The winemaking is all about maintaining the fruit’s natural freshness, whilst adding body and texture to the final wine.

Fermentation takes place in 225 litre American oak barrels and the wine was left in contact with its lees for six months with bâtonnage (lees-stirring) taking place daily. The wine was then bottled.

About the winery

The Ortega Ezquerro story began in 1896 when barrel-maker, Quintín Ortega, planted the family’s first vines. An ambitious man, he would later refurbish an ancient wine cellar and it was here that he began making wine for his family.

120 years have passed and today it is Quintín’s great-grandson, Carmelo Ortega who is at the helm. The family ambition and drive are not diminished and the objective is to embrace the best of modern oenology so that the wines can clearly capture and express the uniqueness of Tudelilla and its vineyards.

About the vineyard

Located in the Rioja Baga, Tudelilla is a village to the north of regional capital, Logroño. Here the vineyards are planted in clay-calcareous soils with an unusually large amount of small and medium-sized pebbles that give the soil its own, unique grape-growing characteristics.

91 points - Decanter
“It may have been barrel-fermented, but this is a style that favours complexity over blatant oak flavours. It is beautifully peachy, with lifted cedar and floral notes and a touch of sweet orange zest. Sweet spices and a touch of woody vanilla round out the palate, but allow the long, juicy finish to take command. A great food wine.”

"A complex Rioja with subtle fruits, smoke, oak, spices, herbs. It shows a very high acidity, firm tannins and long finish"  4/5 Stars

"Oaky, bursting with tropical fruit (pineapple, mango)4/5 Stars

"Floral scents overlaid with a few drops of petrol and mint leaves, another big, velvety smooth white Rioja with plenty of oak keeping up the lighter ceiling of over-ripe white fleshed fruits and a salty lick at the finish. Not so much of the tropical fruit in this one, or much citrus which gives you a foremost sensation of pure indulgence. Lap it up and enjoy!"  4/5 Stars

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
