The beautiful light pink rosés of Provence have undergone a renaissance in the past couple of years and Château des Ferrages’s super-fine, tiny production 'Cuvée Mon Plaisir' is one of the finest.

Soft and creamy, yet delicate, it has much more to it than just simple, fresh citrus and berry fruit. Here you’ll find subtle spice and savoury richness, along with hints of wild herbal garrigue and an alluring silky texture - all for the fantastic price of just £14.25!

Michel Chapoutier is a man who knows wine and under his guidance, Château des Ferrages boasts 12 gold medals in the last five years. The Mon Plaisir is the estate's top wine, a beautiful expression of the very best vineyards found at the foot of Provence's famous Mount Saint-Victoire.

Perfect to drink now but capable of aging for at least a couple of years, Mon Plasir beautifully articulates Provence’s prized soil and climate - Chapoutier's legendary ability to reflect the local terroir in his wines remains undimmed!

About the wine

A lovely pale, crystalline appearance. The nose reveals red fruit with notes of white flowers, strawberry and peach mingled with subtle herbal notes. Fresh and smooth on the palate with a silky, ethereal texture, it has both concentration and richness whilst remaining elegant and light on its feet. A deliciously fruity finish which also shows a touch of spice to add to the complexity of this lovely rosé.

Native grapes are key – Rolle (aka Vermentino), Grenache and Syrah sourced from vines up to 30 years old, which give the wine poise and intensity. These varieties flourish in the sun-filled, ocean-cooled climate and ancient soils of Provence, and develop a delicate richness and complexity.

While the former owners were very traditional in their approach, Chapoutier has lifted the wine with his modern interpretation, harvesting at night for coolness, extending the maceration to 8 hours to pick up more flavour and hue from the skins and providing gentle guidance through vinification, as is the Chapoutier way.

About the winery

“Remarkable wines from one of the most fascinating and compelling personalities in the entire wine world” - Robert Parker

Chapoutier is one of the most highly respected names in wine. The family started in the Rhône Valley in 1855, but since Michel Chapoutier took the helm, the firm has spread its influence much further afield. In 2015 they took ownership of Château Ferrages, in Provence just to the south. Last year they were awarded the ‘World’s Most Admired French Wine Brand’ by Drinks International.

Michel Chapoutier took charge in 1989, when he was just 26, and transformed the reputation of the family business. Today some of his Rhône wines – such as his Ermitage Le Pavillon or Ermitage L’Ermite – fetch in excess of £200 per bottle.

For the last 26 years he has been a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture – his ultimate desire being to create wines that express their terroir. And that desire knows no boundaries. So he scours the world looking for estates with the finest soils and climate to produce the best quality grapes. He has found them in Alsace, Roussillon, the Douro, Australia and now, of course, Provence.

Bought by the Chapoutier family in 2015, Château Ferrages lies in Provence’s commune of Pourcieux with 26 hectares of vineyard. At its centre lies a 1000 square metre winery, well-equipped with the technology to enable the gentlest of treatment of the fruit. Rosé is all-important in Provence and makes up 90% of the estate’s production.  The property had belonged to the same family for three generations, until Chapoutier took ownership in 2015, with the commitment to make the wine quality soar to new heights!

About the vineyard

Provence is one of France’s oldest wine-growing regions, with vines grown here for 2,600 years. It’s climate of abundant sunshine (2600 to 3000 hours annually) and sea breezes provide ideal viticultural conditions of warm days and cool nights.

The 26 hectares of vineyard that make up this award-winning estate showcase the region’s benefits perfectly. They lie between Brignoles and Aix-en-Provence, bordered both north and south by mountains – Sainte-Victoire to the north and Mount Aurélien to the south. These provide a very hilly topography, with many microclimates and pockets of different soils – from limestone to schist. A wonderful playground for Chapoutier!

About the winemaker

Michel Chapoutier is certainly a man of passion, with no fear of controversy – who else would make a pact with his grandfather to take over the 150-year-old family firm, with the proviso that all the rest of the family had to go? It was the making of the house of Chapoutier and Michel took the business from its shaky financial position with a poor reputation and has transformed it to become one of the most respected names in the wine world.

Michel is a firm believer in terroir – wine journalist Jamie Goode described him as “one of the most vocal proponents of biodynamics” – and to this end he has converted his French properties to biodynamic methods to articulate this terroir all the more profoundly. It will take a few years to achieve this at the newly acquired Château des Ferrages, but work is underway. As you'll discover when you taste it ... the results are already sensational!

92 Points - Wine Enthusiast - Editor's Choice
"Making the best use of the privileged land around Mount Sainte-Victoire, this is a rich full-flavored wine. Produced by the major Rhône house of Chapoutier, it has a fine pedigree. That heritage leads to rich fruit that is scintillating with acidity and lifted by a light herbal edge."

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
