"Laurent Charvin’s wines are always some of the most elegant, highly perfumed and pure wines of the appellation" Vinous

Named by Robert Parker himself as one of the world's greatest wine estates in his book of the same name, Laurent Charvin is making some of the Rhône's greatest wines.

Laurent's Côtes du Rhône is reguarly rated as one of the very best, and in the fantastic 2015 vintage it has excelled. Laurent has made perhaps his best ever wines and this is certainly true of this excellent red.

There's no secret to Laurent's success  - just old vines planted in the perfect place, allied to minimal intervention in the winemaking - and the result is a Côtes du Rhône that competes with may other domaines' Châteauneuf du Pape!

This is a wine that is all about purity, finesse and elegance and at a price of just £16.15 is superb value for money.

We've bought all we could get our hands on to offer to Vivino customers, so don't miss this excellent wine!

"There is a splendidly pure, black-raspberry frutiness to his wines, a wonderfully sweet, deep, concentrated mid-palate, and layers of flavor that unfold on the palate" Robert Parker, The World's Greatest Wine Estates

About the wine

Explosively aromatic and perfumed on the nose, Charvin's 2015 Côtes du Rhône sings of cherry and blackberry, given depth and complexity by herbal garrigue notes, floral tones and a lovely peppery spice. This isn't a big, heavy wine, but it doesn't need to be - like all Laurent's wines the aim here is purity and elegance and he's achieved it in spades. Polished and silky smooth on the palate and finishing with great length and a wonderful spicy note, this is an absolute joy to drink!

Winemaking here is traditional and low tech. Whole bunches of grapes are used with no destemming and both fermentation and aging takes place in large concrete tanks. Only very low levels of sulphur are used, the wine sees no wood at any point in the process and it is bottled without fining or filtration. Everything is geared towards purity and freshness.

About the winery

Domaine Charvin was created in 1851 by Guillaume Charvin.

For one hundred years, their grapes were sold in bulk to negociants in the Southern Rhône. In 1951, the Charvin family decided to celebrate their century by bottling their wine for the first time. Although the bulk selling continued for some time, the seeds were sewn for Domaine Charvin's future.

The story of today's Domaine really begins in 1990 when the sixth generation of the family, Laurent, took charge of managing the estate. Young, inspired and energetic, he started bottling and selling their own wine.

The Domaine has never looked back and has gone from strength to strength, making Châteauneuf du Pape and Côtes du Rhône that has become increasingly sought-after and highly rated.

About the vineyard

Charvin own about 12 hectares of vines in the Cotes du Rhone appellation. Their vineyards have a terroir of rocks and stones over limestone and clay soils and on average, their vines are close to 50 years old.

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
