Over the past decade or so, great Malbec from Argentina has been recognised as one of the world's great wine styles. And it keeps getting better and better with ever more innovative wineries producing ever greater wines.

As it competes with the world's best though, it becomes increasingly difficult to find excellent Malbec at an everyday price - which is why we are thrilled to offer the 2016 Malbec Estate from Dona Paula.

Just £11.00 per bottle must make this one of Argentina's greatest value Malbecs!

Full of ripe, dark fruit and a surprising complexity for the price (a result of Dona Paula's superbly situated vineyards), this is absolutely delicious drinking that encapsulates everything great about both Malbec and Argentina.

About the wine

Intense violet color. In the nose, aromas of black fruits, violets and spices, mineral and graphite notes. Great balance and freshness in the mouth, with good concentration and medium structure. Soft tannins and a persistent finish that belongs to a much pricier wine! Delicious and proof that great Malbec needn't be too costly.

The grapes are hand-picked the first week of April. In the winery, they are destemmed gently, without breaking the berries. Then, a cold pre-fermentative maceration is carried out to preserve the primary aromas. Fermentation takes place at low temperatures, and a post-fermentation maceration is later performed for 15 to 20 days. The wine is aged in first, second and third-use French oak barrels for 12 months.

About the winery

Doña Paula is a leading, modern winery at the forefront of exploring and investing in new, high quality wine regions in Argentina.

Established in 1997, they own all of their vineyards covering 700 hectares. These vineyard sites are located in the best subregions within Mendoza including Ugarteche, Altamira, Gualtallary and Tupungato.

They practice sustainable methods in the vineyards, maximising the true expression of terroir. Their continuous innovation in vineyard management ensures top quality wines from one year to the next.

About the vineyard

These grapes are sourced from the best vineyards in Los Indios, Altamira, at 1,100 metres above sea level, and in Alluvia, Gualtallary, at 1,350 metres above sea level.

The soils are sandy loam in the first location and stony in the second one, and both have high calcareous content. Doña Paula Estate Malbec displays the unique characteristics of the Uco Valley, a terroir where the climate is cold, with an average temperature variation of 16 °C  in El Indio and 12.5 °C in Alluvia, and an average annual rainfall of 280 mm (11 in) in Altamira and 300 mm (11.8 in) in Gualtallary.

The vines yield an average of 8 tons per hectare, and they are grown in espaliers, using drip irrigation. At Doña Paula, the vineyards have always been managed using sustainable agricultural practices.

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
