Beaujolais is finding its place in the world again!

Far from the bad old days of Beaujolais Nouveau, today's wines are fruit-forward and silky, full of crisp, juicy fruit and a delicious, savoury edge.

With the depth and concentration that comes from old vines (50 years in this case), they are rapidly winning approval across the globe.

Henry Fessy are at the forefront of this resurgence, making great wines under the guidance of Laurent Chevalier, their winemaker. This Brouilly is one of their best  - and incredible value at just £13.45!

2015 was a brilliant vintage for Beaujolais - the best since 2009 (itself considered to be the best since 1949) and quite possibly better!

Henry Fessy's wines outdid themselves in this great vintage and this Brouilly is an awful lot of wine for not very much money. This is a must buy at this price and a wine that will suit every occasion you can think of. Don't miss out...

About the wine

On the nose, this extremely attractive Brouilly has aromas of red fruits, in particular wild strawberries, along with some ripe blackberry and floral notes and just a hint of spice. In the mouth the fruit is crisp, the wine is concentrated and dominated by its fruit but is surprisingly complex and with a definite savoury edge. Soft, silky and juicy, iIt has great length and fine tannins. Delicious Beaujolais and a wine for any occasion!

Laurent Chevalier, Henry Fessy’s winemaker, believes in simple winemaking that allows the individual characteristics of the grapes and season to reveal themselves.

The harvest is carried out by hand. Once in the winery around 20% of the Gamay grapes are put into the fermentation tanks as whole bunches with the remaining 80% destemmed.

After fermentation the free-run juice is drawn off and the grapes are transferred to the press. The first press juices are combined with the free-run juice. The wine is then aged and racked occasionally.  It is bottled unfined with a light filtration and a small amount of added sulphur to protect the wine. Henry Fessy wines are suitable for vegetarians.

About the winery

Henry Fessy's roots lie in the late 19th century when the Fessy family moved from the Loire Valley and began growing grapes in Beaujolais. They founded their business in 1888 and over the years developed a successful enterprise as a grower, negociant and winemaker.

In 2008 the Fessy family sold to the family-owned Burgundian wine producer Maison Louis Latour. With  Louis Latour’s support the company has prospered and significant investment in their domaine and facilities has followed. In 2009 Louis Latour appointed winemaker Laurent Chevalier to lead the business and the wines are better than ever!

About the vineyard

Brouilly is the most southerly of the Beaujolais Crus and six villages have the privilege of sharing this subtle and enchanting appellation. Brouilly typically has good colour, backbone and is full-bodied, revealing aromas of plums and peaches. Henry Fessy's domaine contains 7.5 hectares of Brouilly vineyards.

The vines are an average of 50 years old and are trained in the traditional manner en Gobelet, which are individual low bush vines.

"From the most southerly of all the crus, this is a great expression of Gamay, displaying ample red juicy fruit aromas. This is refined and silky with gorgeous summer berry characters. A must summer buy from a stunning vintage."

16.5/20 points - Richard Hemming

"Sweet spice on the nose, suggestive of subtle oak influence. Lovely fruit definition and succulence – ripe and juicy. Very slight chew on the finish, but the tannic feel is generally very digestible already."

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
