A Vivino favourite and awarded 'European Winery of the Year 2017' by the Sommelier Wine Awards, San Marzano are making some fantastic wine, melding quality and price to an extent that makes them one of the best value wineries in the world today!

More well-known for their red wines, they also make a couple of rather lovely whites as well...

Like this delicious Sauvignon-Malvasia blend. Tremendous value for money at just £8.70 and grown in the Southern Italian sunshine of Salento, the Malvasia gives the wine aromatic peach and apricot fruit whilst the Sauvignon adds minerality and mouthwatering, crisp acidity.

There's nothing complicated about this and nor does it want to be - this Italian beauty is all about simple enjoyment!

About the wine

White with a slight golden tinge in the glass. Aromas of peach and citrus combine with a hint of tropical fruit - pineapple and mango. This lively, fresh white blend is bursting with ripe flavours from the South of Italy.  Crisp and very easy to drink, it would be an excellent match with starters, salads and pasta with light sauces - or just as an aperitif.

A cryomaceration took place in the pressing machine for six to eight hours, followed by soft pressing of the grapes. A cold static decantation and alcoholic fermentation took place at controlled temperatures of approximately 11°C, which retained both the freshness and fruity aromas of the grapes. The wine was aged in stainless steel, to preserve these fruit-forward characteristics

About the winery

Located in the southern heel of Italy and sandwiched between the Ionian and Adriatic seas, Cantine San Marzano was established in 1962 when 19 vine growers decided to come together to create a winery that would allow them to showcase their collective efforts.

Since then, the cooperative has experienced impressive growth. There are now more than 1200 wine growers connected to San Marzano (some of whom have just the tiniest number of vines but who all play their part)

San Marzano is known for its elegant wines, made from Puglia’s distinctive varietals which reflect both the region’s unique terroir and the passion of the people who farm it. This fusion of ancient traditions, passion and knowledge of contemporary techniques enables Cantine San Marzano to produce wines that showcase the distinctive characteristics of the region, grape variety and terroir.

About the vineyard

The vineyards can be found in and around San Marzano, Salento. This unique region is located in Puglia, in the heart of D.O.P. Primitivo di Manduria. It is a strip of land between two seas: the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic Sea. The vineyards are planted at 100 meters above sea level, with 4,000 vines per hectare. Here vineyards and olive trees are brightly adjacent to each other, on a red soil surface of clay and rocks. The area has high average temperatures and relatively low rainfall.

The vineyards and Mediterranean terroir play a fundamental role in the production of the high quality wines of San MarzanoThe climate is extreme with drought, even frost and the fiery local sirocco wind. But with good treatment in the vineyards, this results in highly concentrated grapes with full and elegant wines.

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
