It’s a steal!

Just £14.95 buys you this 92-point scoring Morellino di Scansano from one of the region's leading producers

A delicious, ruby red wine from the sunny south of Tuscany, Morellino di Scansano may not have the recognition of neighbouring Chianti but wonderful Sangiovese wines are being made here at an unbeatable price.

Sultry, juicy and with a seductive freshness, the wine is filled with the spicy, herbal, cherry fruit that you expect from top-class Sangiovese.

Unable to hide his admiration, famed wine critic Antonio Galloni wrote of the 2016 "...fabulous. A huge overacheiver...Don't miss it"

We couldn't put it any better than that!

About the wine

The Sangiovese grape is king in the vineyards around Scansano in Maremma, where it is also known as Morellino. Wines from this area have such a unique and distinctive character that they have been given their own DOCG status - and when you drink this beautiful Morellino di Scansano, you'll immediately understand why.

Everything is perfectly balanced: you can taste the cheerful, sun-ripened juicy black cherries and ripe berries, but at the same time the wine gains complexity through herbal and mineral notes in the background. Opulent and round with sweet, ripe fruit and spicy notes, the fresh acidity gives it a typically Italian, classic character. Full-bodied yet elegant, this is a seductive, feminine wine that will have you coming back for more time and time again....

90% sangiovese with merlot and syrah making up the remaining 10%, the grapes were harvested at the end of September and into the first week of October. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks with pumping over taking place twice a day during the 15-day long maceration. The wine was bottled after four months. The wine spends no time in oak.

About the winery

The Moris family arrived in the Maremma, in south west Tuscany in the 18th century from Spain and began farming 6000 hectares of land.

Focused primarily on agriculture – cereals, fruit and vegetables – it wasn’t until the 1990s that the family decided to concentrate on winemaking. Vine replanting began in earnest and today the property is considered as one of the leading producers in the area.

About the vineyard

The Moris family have a 34-hectare holding in the Morellino di Scansano DOCG named Poggio La Mozza. Facing in a south-westerly direction, at an altitude of between 80 and 100 meters above sea level, the family started replanting in 1995 and continue this work today.

92 points - Antonio Galloni
"
The 2016 Morellino di Scansano is fabulous. A huge overachiever, the 2016 possesses notable intensity and volume, with generous dark fruit to match its opulent, generous personality. Although quite deep and intense, the 2016 retains striking freshness. Aging in cement really seems to bring out the fruit character. Don't miss it."

"Had a bottle of the 2016 at the weekend. The straight Morellino, not the Riserva. Absolutely gorgeous and terrific value for money. Had it with a rare flatiron steak - terrific! Deep purple in colour with dark fruits especially black cherry. Definitely recommend!"  4/5 Stars

"Great full body. Smooth great after taste"  5/5 Stars

"Lovely balance of dark fruit with acidity, doesn't feel heavy at all. Cracking little wine"  4/5 Stars

"Very classical Tuscan red, this one on the easy side so to speak and offers a good balance and an easygoing pleasant closure. Good value for money 4/5 Stars

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.
