Rich, bold and powerful with masses of flavour, it really is a steal at just £12.75! Perfect for summer BBQs, the only downside is that we can only offer very limited quantities.

The 2016 vintage has received its highest ever score from critic James Suckling. But its not just the press that love it...over 20,000 Vivino users have rated the Felino Malbec across all vintages

Winemaker Paul Hobbs is a name to conjure with. Twice named 'Wine Personality of the Year' by Robert Parker and ex-winemaker at Opus One, with Paul at the helm and fruit sourced from some of the best vineyards in Argentina, Viña Cobos are producing some of Argentina's best wines!

About the wine

A deep red color with violet and blue tones, this great malbec displays aromas of white flowers and black fruits along with notes of white pepper and cloves. Elegant and balanced, it delights the palate with ripe plum and red berry fruit as well as hints of liquorice and chocolate. Rich, broad and smooth with firm tannins that lead to a persistent finish, it's a malbec that would embarass a number of wines at twice the price.

Hand-harvested, the grapes for the Felino Malbec were fermented with selected and native yeasts in 8 and 17 ton closed-top stainless steel tanks. The wine then underwent a period of 9 months oak aging in French and American oak of which a small percentage was new, before being bottled unfined in February 2017.

About the winery

Viña Cobos Winery faces the beautiful Tupungato Volcano. Its architecture is the expression of practical and rational thinking: simple shapes, linear proportions and bright, well-ventilated spaces predominate. The winery design is entirely focused on the concept of facilitating the wine production process.

The spaciousness and brightness of the space is emphasized by the good use of natural light, mainly found in the fermentation room, where the meticulous management of small details is constantly needed. Wine management is done by gravity, avoiding the use of pumps, and thus granting a gentle treatment in each step.

On premise is an older traditional small winery which has been refurbished to complement Viña Cobos’ present production capacity. Although most of its original structure has been preserved, the architectural style has been reinterpreted to provide uniformity with the concept of Viña Cobos’ other facilities: pure lines and vast spaces that favor the landscape. The small winery has traditional concrete tanks, which provide new elements for the wine-making process.

About the vineyard

Vina Cobos are convinced that the commitment to quality begins in the vineyard, and with this determination, terroir-driven wines are produced. The careful management of the vineyard, both their own and those of their strategic partners, allows Vina Cobos to achieve unique grapes that are used to make authentic wines of great character.

This Felino Malbec was made from vineyards in Luján de Cuyo, Maipú, Tupungato, Tunuyán and San Carlos. All have a semi-desert climate and an altitude of between 2306 and  3927 feet.

Viña Cobos has strong ‘green principals’ and works as sustainably as possible. The estate manages their waste to provide compost for the vineyards where only organic fertilisers are used. Grasses are planted in the vineyard rows to help ‘fix’ nitrogen in the soil and organic methods are adopted for pest control and the prevention of disease.

About the winemaker

Described by Forbes Magazine as 'The Steve Jobs of Wine' and twice named 'Wine Personality of the Year' by no less a figure than Robert Parker, visionary winemaker Paul Hobbs is renowned for his ability to identify exceptional vineyards and his pioneering, innovative approach with new and established sites and regions. He has acquired a few nicknames on the way, “truffle-hunting dog” being one of our favourites!

Hobbs was first hired by Robert Mondavi for his expertise in oak aging, he then moved on to Opus One and later Simi Winery. Paul first experienced Argentina and her wines in the late 1980s and immediately saw the fantastic potential of some of the vineyard sites. And so, ten years later Viña Cobos came to be with the vision of producing premium Argentine wines. His efforts have helped to put Argentine onto the maps of wine lovers across the world.

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
