From 'Winery of the Year 2013' and 'Winemaker of the Year 2014' comes this fabulous Shiraz!

Powerful yet elegant, the Covenant Shiraz is made from grapes grown in five different vineyards, each chosen for their ability to highlight the best characteristics of the Clare Valley.

The Clare Valley produces some of the most sought-after Shiraz in the world and this rich, silky stunner of a wine shows exactly why it is so highly rated!

About the wine

Deep red in colour with bright crimson hues. A generously lifted nose, featuring black cherries, savoury meats, kitchen spices and subtle charry oak notes. Crafted in a style that will appeal now or reward further cellaring, the palate offers a richly textured yet surprisingly cultivated mouthfeel. The dark fruits, cherries and spices carry over from the nose superbly and combine expressively with the quality

Selected parcels of handpicked fruit were fermented separately from five vineyards across the region and allowed to age for 18 months in small French oak casks for 18 months before final blending and bottling.

About the winery

Kilikanoon founding father, Mort Mitchell understood that Clare Valley is one of the very best wine grape growing regions of the world with excellent conditions and various sub regions that produce interesting nuances.

Relatively young in the wine world, Kevin Mitchell’s Kilikanoon winery was first established in 1997 with a handful of ancient, neglected vineyards. Humble beginnings perhaps, but Kevin and his team have used their powerful skills to grow the business into one of Australia’s most highly acclaimed estates, and a multiple award-winner.  If you've yet to discover their wines, now is the time!

About the vineyard

Meyman's Block is comprised of dry grown Shiraz, planted in 2000 with the first crop was harvested in 2003.  Planted in an east-west aspect the soils are red brown earth over limestone with some ironstone at the western end of the block.

The fruit from this vineyard is of a very high standard and provides the foundation for this fabulous Kilikanoon Covenant Shiraz.

About the winemaker

Think Kilikanoon and the name on everyone’s lips is its illustrious winemaker and proprietor, Kevin Mitchell. Thanks to his father, Mort Mitchell who tended and planted the Golden Hillside vineyards, Kevin grew up in and around the glorious vines of Clare Valley.

In 1997, Kevin Mitchell founded the Kilikanoon winery in a hamlet of Penwortham, determined to create his own vision of a fine wine brand. He has since achieved national and international success and earned the attention and praise of renowned wine critics around the globe.  Kilikanoon, under Kevin’s direction, has won a host of awards and was named James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion 'Winery of the Year' in 2013. In 2014, Kevin Mitchell was inducted into the inaugural Clare Valley Hall of Fame as Winemaker of the Year

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2013 Shiraz Covenant offers an intense, crème de cassis, baked blueberries and black forest cake nose enhanced by tar and chargrill and black loam nuances. This big, full-bodied wine is densely packed and structured like a brick house with firm and chewy tannins, good acid freshness and a long, earthy finish."

92 Points - James Halliday
"Earthy, ripe, dark fruit aromas are the first impression on the bouquet. Medium-bodied palate, with almost dried-fruit flavours although the feel is quite fresh and bright. The finish is a little warm and edgy but that will resolve no doubt. There's plenty of character here, but it needs time to integrate and settle into its skin."

92 Points - Josh Raynolds
"Inky purple. Deeply pitched cassis, blueberry, licorice and vanilla scents are enlivened by a spicy nuance and a bright jolt of smoky minerals. Lush and open-knit, offering sappy, vivacious black and blue fruit flavors. Floral pastille and spicecake flavors stain the palate, picking up candied violet and cola notes on the back half. The vanilla and mineral notes comes back strong on a youthfully tannic, strikingly persistent finish."

"Smooth light fruit and Pinot mouth feel with Shiraz heft. Lovely" 4/5 Stars

"Refined delicate berry fruit with delicate finish ... seductive and not overly exuberant. Classy. 4/5 Stars

"Typical full-bodied Clare Valley shiraz. Highly recommend 4/5 Stars

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
