Who would miss the chance to buy such a beauty?!

With a stunning 95 points from noted writer Antonio Galloni, this is undoubtedly one of the wines of the terrific 2015 vintage.

Castello dei Rampolla have been one of Chianti’s most dynamic producers for five decades. Leading the way with cabernet sauvignon plantings in the 1970s, the estate has consistently strived to deliver fine wines and have been tireless in making adjustments and improvements in both the vineyard and winery.

Rampolla is top-notch Chianti full of rich hedgerow, plum and cherry fruits, offset with notes of herb, liquorice, leather and smoke. With its bright freshness, it's a stunning drink with or without food.

The Chianti region has been rapidly improving over recent years and wines like this incredible Rampolla 2015 are at the forefront - challenging the likes of Brunello di Montalcino for the crown of best Tuscan wine!

About the wine

Delicious, characterful Chianti from a biodynamically-managed estate. The wine is laden with intense, rich hedgerow, plum and cherry fruits that are brightly offset with notes of herb, liquorice, leather and smoke. The balance between intensity and freshness is deftly achieved and it’s what makes this wine such a joy to drink. On the palate, this is silky, balanced Chianti with medium body, refined tannins and a long flavorful finish of blackberry and chocolate. A beautiful wine that shows all the classic hallmarks of great sangiovese!

Fermentation takes place in concrete tanks and lasts eight months. Ageing is in oak barrels for 12 months and then in bottle for six, before being released.

The vineyards here are farmed biodynamically. The treatments used are based on copper, sulphur and propolis only. Grass is left to grow freely and sometimes even sown, so as to provide shade for the soil, retaining moisture and helping to prevent erosion.

Over the years, through the use of green manure, the soils at Rampolla have acquired richness and a balance and fertility, that has reduced the need for human intervention.

About the winery

The Castello dei Rampolla estate has been in the same family since 1739 but the wine story did not start until over 200 years later when Alceo di Napoli Rampolla set his heart on making a great wine.

His first vintage was in 1975 and it was Alceo, along with the great winemaker, Giacomo Tachis who chose to plant the international cabernet sauvignon, to blend with the local sangiovese! A trailblazing move at the time.

Castello dei Rampolla continues to be a pioneer in Tuscany; they converted the property to biodynamic agriculture in the 1990s and they were amongst the first to make wine without sulphites.

About the vineyard

The Castello dei Rampolla vineyards are found at Santa Lucia in Faulle which lies in the valley of the “Conca d’Oro”, south of Panzano in Chianti.

“Conca d’Oro” means “Golden Basin”, or Valley. The name has medieval origins, from the time when Siena and Florence both wanted to own the land of Chianti. This “Conca”, due to its special exposure, southeast and southwest, was perfect for the growing of wheat (hence the reference to the colour gold), as it is today for producing wine.

93 points - Antonio Galloni
The 2015 Chianti Classico is simply magnificent. A deep, boldly sketched wine featuring dark cherry, blackberry, licorice, lavender and spice, it offers unreal density and power at this level. The purity of the fruit alone is striking. Even with all of its obvious intensity, the 2015 maintains freshness and energy. It is without question one of the wines of the vintage so far."

93 points - James Suckling
"A wonderfully floral Chianti Classico with jasmine and elderberry flowers not to mention smoke, plums and light chocolate. Medium to light body, soft tannins and fresh acidity."

92 points - Kerin O' Keefe
"Aromas of truffle, leather, menthol and mature plum take the lead on this concentrated red. The aromas follow through to the full-bodied, chewy palate along with fleshy black cherry, licorice and dried herb. Close-grained tannins provide the assertive framework."

92 points - Monica Larner
...a polished and immediate wine that puts forth a beautiful bouquet built on solid layers of healthy primary fruit. The wine offers expansive aromas of cherry liqueur, cola, licorice and balsam herb. That unique vertical intensity you see here is what sets the wine apart.... I love the style put forth here."

"Light clear red. Red fruits and spice. Dry and layered. Red fruits and orange rind. Long and broad. Good vintage"  4/5 Stars

"Red stone fruit, nice tannins, a little more astringent in the aftertaste. Very nice, not heavy. A splendid freshness"  4/5 Stars

"Forest, mushrooms and red berry nose. Plums and rich fruit. Toast and a hint of liquorice . Fresh with good tannins. Good now, could become stunning."  4.5/5 Stars

"Velvety, deep, blackberry, cherries, leather, tobacco melt in a delicious mouthful of soft tannins"  4.5/5 Stars

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.
