On offer today at just £11.75 (16% off!), this Spanish beauty is an absolutely cracking buy. We cannot recommend it highly enough!

Awarded 93 points at the 2017 Decanter World Wine Awards, the MV from Dehesa del Carrizal was praised for its “dense fruit” and “ripe plum and dark berry fruit on palate complemented by nutty wood.”

Dehesa del Carrizal, situated south-west of Toledo in Castilla-La Mancha, is one of Spain’s 17 Vino de Pagos - the highest classification on the quality scale of Spanish wines.

It is a category reserved for those few wineries and vineyards which carry out the whole process, from the grape to the bottle, within the limits of the Pago or estate, and that have a particularly unique location, soil and climate. Think of it as a Spanish 'Grand Cru'!

This dynamic wine is a blend of Carrizal's best grape varieties and it changes year on year based on which grapes fared the best in that vintage.

The resulting wine is always versatile and incredibly food friendly, offering an elegant palate of ripe blackberries and blueberries along with some toast, spice and a touch of earthiness.

About the wine

A cherry red in the glass, the MV is suprisingly complex for a wine at this price level with notes of ripe black fruits, mainly blackberry, and plum as well as hints of toast and spices from the careful oak aging. Silky-smooth and soft on the palate, with a great balance between ripe fruit and fresh acidity, this really over-delivers!

The wine is aged in French oak - a combination of new and used barrels - for one year.

About the winery

Dehesa del Carrizal is a rare and special wine estate being one of only 17 Vino de Pagos. This is the highest possible accreditation that can be awarded to a Spanish winery, reserved only for those who carry out the whole process - from grape to bottle - within the limits of the Pago. The property’s unique location, soil and climate are also factors in determining the right to Vino de Pago status.

In 2010 the property was purchased by the Villar Mir family who are committed to producing wines of the highest quality, with a strong individual character.

About the vineyard

The Dehesa del Carrizal vineyards are nestled between the Tajo and Guadiana river basins, in the heart of the Montes de Toledo mountain range. Here the acidic silica soils, humid climate and 800-meter altitude combine to create the perfect microclimate for vine growing.

The oldest vines are cabernet sauvignon, planted in 1987. Syrah, merlot, tempranillo, chardonnay and petit verdot followed.

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
