Condrieu is the Rhône's greatest white wine and Domaine de Bonserine one of its most prestigious estates, holding vines in some of the best areas.

2016 was a superb vintage in the Northern Rhône, described by the legendary Marcel Guigal as the best he'd seen since he began in 1961.

This combination of the great vintage and Bonserine's ideally situtated vineyards has produced stunningly good Condrieu, remarkably vibrant and pure and marked out by its wonderfully fresh acidity.

There is never much Condrieu made and with just 2.5 hectares, Bonserine's production is tiny and correspondingly hard to find.

Don't miss your chance to grab one of France's best whites from one of the region's best ever vintages!

About the wine

A beautiful example of this small but very distinctive appellation. The Viognier grape is perfectly at home here, producing a wine that is rich, smooth and supple but also deliciously fresh. Highly perfumed, the nose is laden with pear, peach and apricot along with some more tropical fruit and hints of herbs. The palate is creamy and rich, full of stone fruits and notes of liquorice. With good concentraion, intensity and a fine streak of minerality, the wine is balanced by a zippy acidity and the finish is incredibly long & memorable. Fresh, focused and elegant, this is top-notch Condrieu!

To make the Condrieu, the grapes are hand-harvested and sorted three times to select only the best grapes. Every parcel is vinified separately and fermentation triggered by its own wild yeast. There is a short maceration on the skins before pressing, then fermentation in new lightly toasted 600 litre French oak "demi-muids" with temperature control. The wine is then aged for 7-10 months in the same demi-muids before finally, rigorous tasting is carried out and the wine undergoes its final blend.

About the winery

Situated in the north of Cote-Rotie, Domaine de Bonserine was founded in 1972 by Alfred Gerin, but was purchased in 2006 by the legendary Guigal family.

Some heavy investment followed and the whole winery was updated and several parts of the vineyard were replanted. However, the Domaine is absolutely independent with its own winemaking, commercial and logistics team. Today it owns 27 acres of vineyards in Côte-Rôtie and about 2.5 acres in the Condrieu appellation.

About the vineyard

The grapes for this Condrieu are all sourced from the Domaine's vineyards in the prestigious lieu-dits “Les Rivoires”, “Les Eyguets” and “La Grande".

The appellation’s narrow terraces are generally composed of granite and “arzelle”: a mixture of decomposed granite, mica, shale, and clay that gives Condrieu wines their fruity aromas of peaches and apricots. The average age of vines is 25 years.

"
Very expressive, brimming with plantain, green almond, green fig and acacia notes that stream through the fennel-infused finish. A delight"

"
Bonserine's classic 2016 Condrieu is well made, with lots of citrus blossom, buttered peach and apricot aromas and flavors, medium to full-bodied richness, and a great finish"

"The 2016 Condrieu showed well in my blind tasting. It boasts textbook aromas of crushed stone and flowers, underscored by hints of peach, honey and pear. This medium to full-bodied wine is plump and round in the mouth, ending on subtle notes of gingery spice that linger on the finish."

"This is an exceptional bottle. I immediately thought Burgundy, but was off on the grape. Lychee, light citrus, a little oily. I'm buying some of this juice! 4/5 Stars

"Really fantastic, light medium body, floral and fruity. Very slight acidity" 5/5 Stars

"Awesome. Awesome. We blind tasted and thought White Burg but warm climate as it had real strength. White peach on palate. I am buying a case and putting it away where I cannot touch it for a decade"  4/5 Stars

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING
