With the reputation and quality of English sparkling wine continuing to rocket, we thought it high time that we found a superb example to offer to our customers!

The 2010 Jenkyn Place Blanc de Noirs is an exceptionally fine vintage Blanc de Noirs from one of the younger English wine estates, situated in Hampshire.

The first vintage to be produced, it will only be made in the best years and has already grabbed the attention not just of the wine writers and critics but of leading sommeliers too; most recently winning a Gold Medal and an 'Outstanding' classification at the IWSC 2017, one of the world's most highly regarded competitions.

At £30.75 (13% off the UK RRP), this is a fizz that easily competes with (and often bests) similar Champagnes.

Aged on the lees for over four years to give it richness and breadth of flavour, the 2010 is very expressive with lovely aromas and a bright palate that is as engaging as it is generous.

About the wine

Now in it's 5th year after vintage, the first Jenkyn Place Blanc de Noir has been released. It has a fresh nose of cashew nuts with notes of lime and ginger and on the palate there is a sensation of ripe pear, golden apple, baked bread and toast. Its great acid structure gives freshness, lift and length. There is plenty of complexity to follow as the wine already has stunning length, poise and detail on the finish – fascinating and delicious! Coming into its own now, this wine has a fantastic future.

This award-winning wine is made in the traditional Champagne method. Quality control is paramount throughout the whole process – from the design, planting and tending of the vineyards to the actual production of the wines.  This stunning Blanc de Noir (a 50/50 split of pinot noir and pinot meunier) spent over four years on the lees before being bottled.

About the winery

Jenkyn Place is the brainchild of property investor and entrepreneur, Simon Bladon. Originally from Yorkshire, Simon and his wife, Rebecca, moved to Jenkyn Place in Hampshire in 1997 and, after extensive renovations, turned their thoughts to the abandoned hop fields next to the property.

Simon, who loves a good challenge, decided to plant his first vines – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier (classic Champagne grape varieties), in 2004. He planted more vines in 2007 and 2010 and has now reached full capacity in the vineyards. Jenkyn Place wines are sold in the UK and abroad and have received numerous international awards and accolades, with praise from some of the world’s top wine critics.

About the vineyard

Jenkyn Place is situated in idyllic countryside and the vineyards have been created with excellence in mind, designed and planted to produce top quality English sparkling wines.

The vineyards cover 12 acres (around 5 hectares) and are perfectly located on sheltered, chalky, south-facing slopes, 100m above sea level on the North Hampshire Downs. The first vines were planted in 2004 and previous to that, hops were grown on the site. Further vines were planted in 2007 and 2010 and the vineyards are now at full capacity with a total of 15,000 vines.

The soil is greensand over marlstone which is perfect for Champagne grape varieties, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.

About the winemaker

Dermot Sugrue is the talented young Irish winemaker behind the 2008 and 2009 vintages of both Jenkyn Place English sparkling wines, which are made in the traditional method. Dermot is based at Wiston Estate Winery in West Sussex and was formerly the chief winemaker at Nyetimber. He has also worked in Champagne, Bordeaux and India. “When I first visited Jenkyn Place, I was struck by how well-managed the vineyard was. I knew straight away that Simon was very serious about quality.”

Gold Medal Outstanding - IWSC 2017
"Displays a toasty autolytic character, with notes of red apple and light pineapple. Has good weight on the palate and some richness in the mid-range. A wine which is holding up well for the vintage."

Gold Medal - Sommelier Wine Awards 2016
"Freshness, a complex, floral bouquet and a lengthy finish added up to a Gold-winning formula for Jenkyn Place. Apple blossom, citrus zest and lime juice on the nose lead to an apple, lime and grapefruit-infused palate. Rudina Arapi of Galvin at Windows found it 'refreshing, with salty minerality', while team leader Annette Scarfe MW said: 'Zesty, green apple and citrus with a persistent bead.'"

"Fresh and zesty with a clean finish and slightly biscuity. Gets fruitier the longer open. Again another quality sparkling wine from Jenkyn Place" 4/5 Stars

"At £35 the best English BdN I've tried & very champagne-esq once it opens!" 4/5 Stars

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
