Not all Californian Pinot has to be hard on the wallet!

The 2013 La Crema Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is a best-selling wine, with over 19,000 ratings on Vivino, and is quite brilliant value at just £22.45!

Widely considered to be one of the finest appellations anywhere in the world for the cultivation of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the vineyards of Sonoma Coast offer an unusually long, cool and even growing season.

Lingering fog and wind from the nearby Pacific Ocean and the San Pablo Bay moderate temperatures, producing small berries with firm acidity and highly concentrated aromas and flavours.

La Crema’s Pinot Noirs are pure, accurate and reflective of their origin - and at this price, a complete steal!

About the wine

The 2013 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir shows concentrated aromas of red cherry, raspberry, pomegranate and sweet tobacco along with an appealing spiciness and a typical Pinot earthiness. Dry and silky on the palate, it shows multi-layered flavours of red, blue and black berry fruit, plums, cherries and a hint of blood orange underpinned by subtle layers of exotic spice and toast. Round, fine tannins give a soft, smooth texture and the wine finishes long with a touch of spice. Incredibly good value Californian Pinot!

Due to cool weather in May, yields were exceptionally low in 2015 but a warm summer ensured that the crop ripened quickly and evenly. The tiny harvest, amongst the smallest on record, meant that the grapes were unusually intense and concentrated. 2015 has produced exceptional wines, some believe even on a par with the 2013s - if you can find them!

Harvest was one of the earliest on record, August 20th to September 28th - grapes were hand-sorted, carefully de-stemmed and cold soaked for three days at 48°F to intensify the colour and flavours of the wine.

Fermentation took place in open-top tanks and the must was hand-punched three times a day, extracting further colour and texture. The wine was then racked and transferred to 100% French oak barrels. Finally, nine months of aging helped to create La Crema's signature smooth flavours.

About the winery

When La Crema was founded in 1979, the Russian River Valley had yet to establish itself as one of California’s most important regions for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The first few vintages at La Crema were devoted to learning the intricacies of cold-climate viticulture and winemaking along with the task of procuring first-class vineyards for fruit.

In 1993 Jess Jackson bought La Crema and, with the help of winemaker Dan Goldfield, elevated the quality of the wines and enhanced the winery’s reputation as a top producer in California for Burgundian varieties. Over the intervening years, La Crema expanded its collection of vineyards to include some of the most esteemed sites in not just the Russian River Valley but also within the Sonoma Coast, Green Valley, Fort Ross-Seaview, Mendocino, Carneros and Monterey.

About the vineyard

The fruit for the Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir was sourced from vineyards located throughout this diverse area, yet all within 30 miles of the ocean. Depth and spice from the Russian River Valley, the earthiness of Los Carneros and red fruit flavours from the Green Valley.

Each lot was tended separately to ensure an ideal balance in the final blend. As a result the wine is a superb representation of the Sonoma coast region.

"
Fleshy cherry and dark spice with a long, naughty finish on this California Pinot Noir. Medium-bodied and satin smooth like lingerie. A supple red wine with cherry-berry mouth-filling wonder and flavours. Just enough oak for hedonists. Layered yet not heavy. This pinot has been one of my favourites for years. Satin seduction in a glass."

"Thick tannins gird the powerful fruit in this wine—a mix of red cherry and strawberry that mellows with time in the glass. Toasted oak and baking spice touches provide additional context and pleasure."

"Intense fruity nose of cherry, strawberry, herbal spices and new leather. On the palate, high acidity, not too jammy but some nice fruit, nice zippy and tangy tannins. Long warm length. I like the fact that it’s not overflowing with jam. Very well made"  4/5 Stars

"Just wonderful Pinot from Sonoma. Abundant strawberry and red currant notes. Simple, but elegant. Pleasant finish and totally yummy. The wine is adorable and outstanding price!" 4.5/5 Stars

"Strawberry and cherry on the palate. Soft velvety body witt excellent length of finish. Tannins are gentle. Small hint of tobacco and cedar throughout. Yummy!!"  4/5 Stars

"Ripe cherry nose, great smooth on the palate, cocoa, tobacco, strawberry, balanced, long afte taste. An excellent west coast pinot. 4.5/5 Stars

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
