With two major awards in recent times - The Year's Best Champagne 2015 (Wines & Spirits) and Best NV Champagne (Decanter World Wine Awards) , Louis Roederer's Brut Premier is on exceptionally fine form and a Vivino best-seller - all because it offers an affordable taste of true luxury.

Brut Premier comes from their finest Premier and Grand Cru vineyards. This latest release is absolutely delicious, and today you can pick it up for just £32.90 a bottle - saving over 20%!

Roederer is the last of the great, family-owned Champagne houses. Unlike the other big names, they grow virtually all their own grapes, giving them unrivalled control over quality.

“A Champagne house that will never let you down, Louis Roederer is a standard bearer for excellence” Matthew Jukes

About the wine

"Roederer is one of my favorite Champagne houses. Every wine that emerges from this cellar in Reims is impeccable." Robert Parker

A beautiful, vibrant gold in the glass with seemingly endless streams of tiny bubbles, lovely toast and herb aromatics. The intense, toasty nose has a fine herby edge and hints of toffee and vanilla. The palate has rich toast and brioche notes, along with a bit of nuttiness and some citrus freshness. Great depth and intensity, savoury and spicy with lovely depth and richness. The lush mid-palate leads to a big finish that irresistibly urges one take the next sip. Irresistable stuff!

Cellarmaster Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon says of the Brut Premier, “The freshness, finesse and brightness of Brut Premier make it the perfect wine for festive occasions. Its structured texture, richness and length are distinctly winey. It is a full, complex wine that is both rich and powerful, whilst remaining a great classic.”

There is no doubting the extraordinary quality of this Champagne which has been made from two-thirds estate-owned grapes and one-third purchased grapes. Incredibly high standards give impressive bubbly - their vineyards are rated in the top 2% of the entire Champagne region and literally every grape is scrutinised, so that only perfect fruit makes into the wine.

Roederer NV always uses a relatively high proportion of reserve wines which are, since 1996, single vintage wines aged in large (between 6000 and 10000 litre) oak casks. The wine was aged for three years in the cellar before being released.

About the winery

Louis Roederer is one of Champagne's Grandes Marques and their Brut Premier has received high praise, and been a celebratory essential, for centuries. As Jancis Robinson MW notes, it really is "deliciously superior".

The wine is aged for a minimum of three and a half years before release, which really adds to the richness and complexity. At a time when most Chamapgne Houses bought in their grapes, Louis Roederer nurtured his vineyards, familiarized himself with the specific characteristics of each parcel, and methodically acquired the finest land. Louis’s guiding principle was that all great wine depends on the quality of the soil, a passion for quality, and tending the vines for th benefit of future generations. Following these ideals has cemented the reputation of the House of Louis Roederer as among Champagne's very finest estates.

About the vineyard

The Louis Roederer vineyards extend to 240 hectares, made up of 410 parcels in a host of Grand and Premier Cru sites across the three classic Champagne districts:  Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and the Côtes des Blancs.

As you might expect, the estate grows the three traditional Champagne varieties. Chardonnay brings minerality, finesse and elegance whilst pinot noir adds structure and enables ageing. Last, but not least, is pinot meunier which has sweet fruit and brings harmony and softness where it’s used.

Since 2000, the house has been conducting trials with organic and biodynamic viticulture across 82 hectares and currently has the largest landholding of such vineyards in the region. The intention is not to seek biodynamic certification but to continue to maximise the efforts to improve overall quality.

About the winemaker

Wine Enthusiast Magazine named Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon “Winemaker of the Year” in their 2015 issue. It is Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon’s ability to “catch the moment of Champagne’s revolution” that has made him Wine Enthusiast’s 2015 Winemaker of the Year. Jean-Baptiste is using modern methods – biodynamic and organic farming, fermenting in wood, picking grapes for ripeness, not acidity – to make a “new-old style of great Champagne”.

Jean-Baptiste has been working with the Rouzaud family, which owns Roederer, since he graduated from oenology school. He worked in the Roederer estates in California, Tasmania and Bordeaux, before returning to his native Reims in 1999. Lecaillon revolutionized the vineyards by banning herbicides and introducing biodynamic farming to 184 of Roederer’s 590 acres. With many more vintages to go, Lecaillon is one of a handful of winemakers changing the way Champagne is produced and how the region sees itself. He’s perhaps the most farsighted in his approach to vines and winemaking. While looking to the future, he has also learned from the past. The results rate among the world's very finest wines.

93 Points - Wine Advocate
"Light golden color. Funky, wild, rich, creamy, yeasty, and earthy nose. The leaf mold character is fascinating. As it opens, sweetness balances against the strong sauvage character. On the palate, is full-bodied, dense, and chewy, with superb mouth feel. It’s particularly lively and seems to dance on the palate. We suspect that this is an outstanding food Champagne. Stressing power rather than grace and elegance, kept improving in the glass. Excellent quality."

"The famous nonvintage from Louis Roederer has evolved and become just that little bit drier. This bottling emphasizes white fruits and crisp acidity as well as mineral texture. It is a complete wine, all the elements there."

92 Points - James Suckling
"
Beautifully composed reduction across lemon citrus, white peach, cherries and deeper, more savory notes of spice and grilled nuts; fresh and complex at once. The palate's assertively flavored, yet runs on a smooth and fine textural thread. Acidity is paramount, redder fruits hold court here. Great balance and depth."

92 Points - Wine Spectator
"This vibrant version is finely knit and elegant, with floral, toast and smoke aromas on the nose and flavors of crème de cassis and lemon curd riding the lacy mousse."

91 Points - Josh Raynolds
"Pale gold. Spice- and mineral-accented orchard and pit fruits on the intensely perfumed nose, with hints of toasty lees and brioche adding complexity. Sappy, penetrating and floral on the palate, offering juicy Meyer lemon, pear and melon flavors braced by a smoky mineral underpinning. Closes spicy and very long, leaving a sexy honeysuckle note behind."

"Absolutely compelling...You get what you pay for - and more - with this entry level Louis Roederer. This 40/40/20 blend of Chard, PN & PM is beautifully balanced showing acacia, citrus and pears combined with nutty and biscuity notes. It has a velvety texture and creamy mouse that make it so elegant and hard to resist...Who says you can't drink a luxury Champagne every day?" 4/5 Stars

"Magnifique!!! Rich, complex, full of finesse and elegance. Beautiful dryness, green apple and nutty notes. Excellent value. A memorable champagne for special occasions..." 5/5 Stars

"One of my favourite Champagnes, smell of dough on the nose. Fruity on the palate, apples and lemon. Tiny tiny bubbles which mouse up massively and leave a wonderful creamy texture. Stunning!" 4.5/5 Stars

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
