LAST FEW BOTTLES!

"I can say that the 2014s are sensational. Go get some" James Suckling

Who are we to argue? From the fantastic 2014 vintage and priced at £37.25 with a 17% discount, this is a superb deal for a Cabernet of this quality from the Napa Valley!

With wines that have acheived the magical 100 point score and twice named "Wine Personality of the Year" by Robert Parker, Hobbs is a man at the very top of his game.

Californian Cabernet this good normally costs twice the price - and don't get us started on what you'd pay in Bordeaux for this kind of quality!

About the wine

Produced using hand-harvested fruit from carefully selected vineyards in prime appellations in the Napa Valley, CrossBarn Cabernet Sauvignon offers structure and weight in balance with pure, concentrated fruit.

Dark crimson in color, the wine displays enticing aromas of cassis, boysenberry, lavender, sage, cedar, and tobacco leaf. This complexity continues to the palate which offers a medley of ripe, dark fruit - plums and wild berries - along with thyme, clove and vanilla. Creamy, fine tannins make the wine soft and a joy to drink. Rich, savoury flavors coat the mouth on the dense and mouth wateringly juicy finish.

To make Crossbarn, the grapes are hand-harvested and then macerated for a 27-day period. Primary fermentation takes place  using selected yeasts and the wine is then aged for 20 months in French and American oak, 14% of which is new.

About the winery

Paul Hobbs’ wines have legendary status. Some have even achieved that amazingly rare thing… 100 Parker Points! You’d have to say that Paul Hobbs is a man who had a rather good start in wine - his first sample being a 1962 Château d’Yquem, given to him by his Dad in 1969. It certainly set the bar fabulously high…

Just over twenty years later in 1992 the Paul Hobbs winery was founded and in 1998 he purchased land in Sebastopol, California which would become the Katherine Lindsay Estate. His first crush would take place at the winemaking facility there in 2003. The accolades, the perfect scores have rolled on in ever since and today he is famed as one of the world’s leading wine makers and consultants. This is a man who has built a career crafting wines that are noted for their balance, intensity and sense of place.

It is no surprise that he was once named California’s ‘most influential winemaker’.

About the vineyard

By far the most famous appellation in California is the Napa Valley.  Encompassing virtually all of Napa County as well as 14 distinct AVAs (American Viticultural Area), this extensive valley system is home to the cradle of California’s viticultural history.

Napa Valley opens to the south where the climate is shaped by the maritime influences of the great San Pablo Bay. This regular influx of cool, damp air creates a meso-climate that is significantly different from that of the Northern reaches of the valley where the day’s heat can remain trapped and accumulates over the course of the summer growing season.

The other great influences on the climate of the valley are the mountains that frame its contours. With the Mayacamas Range separating Napa from Sonoma on the west and the Vaca range defining the valley’s eastern boundary there are many varied exposures, elevations, and soils here that have been deemed worthy of special attention.

Within the Napa Valley lie smaller sub-AVAs that lend even more character specifics to the wine. Furthest south is Carneros, followed by Yountville, Oakville & Rutherford. Above those two is St.-Helena and finally, just granted an AVA, Calistoga. These areas are situated on the valley floor and are known for creating rich, smooth Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. There are a few mountain regions as well, nestled on the slopes overlooking the valley AVAs. Those include Howell Mountain, Stags Leap and Mount Veeder. Wines from the mountain regions are often more structured and firm, benefiting from more time in the bottle to evolve and soften

93 points - James Suckling
"Aromas of violets, sage, lavender, and hints of currants. Blue fruit. Full body, very fine and polished tannins. Love the length and beauty. Very elegant."

92 points - Lisa Perrotti-Brown
"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley opens with spicy cassis and blueberry tart notions plus underlying bay leaves, cedar, pencil lead and smoked meat notes. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and packed with black berry and spice box flavor layers, it has a firm backbone of grainy tannins and instills plenty of freshness on the finish."

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
