Tired of all the big-name grapes and looking for something new - and gorgeous - to try?

Well, the hunt is over! On offer today for the great price of £15.95 is this southern Italian fiano; an indigenous grape variety that is prized for its flavour and expression.

Full-bodied with an enticing aroma and palate, this delicious Fiano has white orchard fruit, lovely minerality and super freshness that makes it wonderfully easy to drink!

Terredora have a uniquely large vineyard holding in Campania and, happily, vineyards in some of the very best sites where the grapes can ripen slowly, with plenty of time to acquire plenty of flavour and a good balance of sugars and acidity.

With such top-quality grapes at their disposal, the winemaking team know their job is to steer the fruit gently through the winemaking process, with the lightest of touches. This is an unoaked white that spends a few weeks maturing on its lees to give it texture and complexity.

About the wine

The wine has a pretty straw yellow colour and, on the nose you’ll find delicate honeyed notes with floral touches, baked green apple and mineral notes too. The palate is dry, elegant with a fine backbone of acidity. The aromatic, white orchard fruit is expressive and lingers long on the palate. Quite the charmer!

As with all great wines, the success here is really due to the exceptional fruit quality. The winemaking is attentive and importantly, kept to a minimum.

The juice is held on the skins for several hours after which there is a gentle pressing to maximise the flavours. The juice is fermented at cool temperatures with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Further flavour is achieved by lees ageing for several weeks.

About the winery

Walter Mastroberardino, the head of Terredora has long been championing the wines of Campania and has memories of taking bottles from this southern region as far north as Milan after the Second World War to share with the uninitiated!

His winemaking journey began in the 1970s in a combined effort with his brother. In 1994 and at the age 60 he started a new company with his three children. Named after his wife, they built a cellar in Montefusco, plum in the centre of some of the finest vineyards.

Terredora now control some 180 hectares of Campania’s finest vineyards located at the confluence of the south’s leading DOCGs. The property is strictly Azienda Agricola, which means that they don’t produce wine from grapes they don’t themselves grow.

About the vineyard

Campania and the sub-region of Irpinia are home to native varieties such as fiano, greco, falanghina and aglianico, all of which prosper in the rolling succession of mountains, hills and upland plains divided by rivers and covered with lush vegetation. The microclimate is atypical of the south with cold, snowy winters and hot days and cool nights in the summer.

The fiano grapes for this wine are from ancient vines planted on the hillsides. The volcanic soils are rich in limestone and clay and enjoy the southern exposure that are kept cool by the mountain breezes. All grapes are harvested by hand.

93 Points - James Suckling
"
This is extremely minerally with lots of lemon rind and spiced apple character and some green payaya. Full body, plenty of flavor and an intense finish. Fantastic Fiano this year."

"Reminiscent of evening walk through a summer meadow, floral notes with peach and pear. In the glass a pale straw with long legs. Whilst on the palate it's smooth and voluminous filling the mouth, the peach and pear continues and ends with a hint of honeyed sweetness. 4/5 Stars

"Deep minerality. Slate and citrus. Campania never disappoints."  4/5 Stars

"Quite pale. Gentle rich aroma of peach and lemon with flavours to match. Slightly creamy. Nice finish."  4/5 Stars

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING
