"...this is how to make world-class Pinot Noir" -Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

If you ask those in the know where the next great area for Pinot Noir is, many people will point you towards Oregon and the cool-climate Dundee Hills.

Although wine has been grown here for decades, only recently has the world cottoned onto the seriously great Pinots being produced. And this lack of exposure means that us lucky drinkers are still able to pick up superb wines at great prices!

Arterberry Maresh are one of the leading wineries in the region (and one of the oldest) and Jim Arterberry makes fantastic, elegant old-vine Pinot that rivals the best that Burgundy can produce.

2014 is widely held to be a very special vintage in Oregon, with the grapes obtaining perfect ripeness. This single vineyard Pinot reflects the brilliance of the vintage with its complex layers of deep, ripe fruit and its savoury elegance.

If you've not tried Oregon Pinot before, prepare to be amazed!

About the wine

Forward, deep and vibrantly perfumed, the 2014 Weber Vineyard Pinot is spectacular old vine Pinot Noir. Elegant, but with luscious fruit to spare, it displays sweet notes of juicy currant, raspberry, dark cherry, earth and a floral note. The structure is refined and acidity taut and refreshing. Classy, elegant and extremely long on the finish, this would put many Premier Cru Burgundies to shame!

Destemmed in 1¼ ton lots, Jim’s light touch in the winery allows the intrinsic character of the wine to blossom. Passive temperature management ensures spontaneous fermentation proceeds and is monitored and guided by sensory analysis, gentle extraction techniques and low peak temperatures. Immediately upon reaching dryness, the lots are gently pressed in a half-ton wood bladder press and settle 2-4 weeks before being transferred to 5%-10% new French Oak barrels for 14-18 months. They are only racked to prepare for bottling.

About the winery

The Maresh family has had a long and memorable presence in the Dundee Hills. In 1980 Jim and Loie’s daughter, Martha, married Fred Arterberry, Jr. who was one of the first winemakers in Oregon to have a degree in fermentation science from the University of California at Davis. Fred Arterberry was one of the early pioneer winemakers in the 1970’s and produced many highly acclaimed wines from the Maresh Vineyard.

In 1983 Martha and Fred had a son, Jim Arterberry Maresh. His father’s winery label — Arterberry — closed upon Fred’s death in 1990. Beginning in 2005 Jim founded his own winery, Arterberry Maresh, and is the first in Oregon to represent a third generation in Oregon’s wine industry.

Raised on his family’s farm since he was born, Jim has a strong connection to and appreciation of the Red Hills of Dundee. He knows the vineyards, the neighbors and the various seasons and vintages that challenge and reward each grape grower and winemaker. His is a deep history of family, farming and winemaking. His wines reflect that heritage and the experience of three generations farming since 1959.

About the vineyard

Since 2010, Arterberry Maresh has contracted 1976 and 1983 planted, own-rooted Pommard clone Pinot Noir from Weber Vineyard. The true east-facing site is located southeast of Winderlea and gets limited afternoon sun, though tends to ripen early at 350’-450’ elevation.

93 Points - Neal Martin
The 2014 Pinot Noir Weber Vineyard comes from vines planted in 1983. It has a very refined bouquet with red cherry, wild strawberry, sous-bois and subtle floral notes - very complex and classy. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, nicely structured with a gentle grip. The fruit veers towards the darker side of the spectrum towards the finish, with blackberry and cranberry fruit, long and edgy. Classy, composed and cool, this is how to make world-class Pinot Noir"

92 Points - Josh Raynolds
Vivid red. Mineral- and spice-tinged aromas of fresh red berries and candied rose develop a hint of incense as the wine opens up. Shows impressive clarity and lift in the mouth, offering sappy raspberry, spicecake and floral pastille flavors joined by a jolt of smoky minerals. Finishes very long and gently sweet, featuring subtle tannins and strong, floral-driven persistence."

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
