"Classic, elegant and ethereal, Agostina Pieri releases some of the most rewarding wines in Montalcino today" robertparker.com

Brilliant Brunello di Montalcino on offer today for £34.25 – a great price for top Brunello.

Agostina Pieri may not have been around for long - they are one of Brunello's newer producers - yet they've already established themselves as a power in the region, gaining increasing recognition from critics and Brunello-lovers alike!

A boutique, family-owned winery with a singular focus on making top-quality wines, they capture the best of the old and the new, combining great concentration of flavour, complexity, and extraordinary length.

Their excellent Brunello is made from the San Angelo in Colle vineyard, an area renowned for its supple, charming wines that are also powerful, complex and long-lived.

And that is the perfect description of this lovely Brunello - a striking wine that is as impressive as it is attractive!

About the wine

An exceptionally stylish Brunello di Montalcino that strikes the balance between intensity and elegance perfectly. Aromatically complex with notes of black cherry, forest fruit, herbs and flowers mixing with scents of balsamic, leather and earth. Soft and silky with a solid core of juicy, sweet hedgerow fruits and lovely concentration and power, fine-grained tannins are present on the long, spicy finish. A lovely Brunello that is charming and drinking beautifully right now but has the power and structure to age wonderfully.

Hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel, the wine was aged for two years in wooden barrels. 12 months in demi muid barrels (600 litres) and the remaining 12 months in new French oak barrels. The wine then spent a further 6 months in stainless steel vats before being bottled, where it matured for 18 months before finally being released.

About the winery

The nephew of famous winemaker, Giancarlo Pacenti, Francesco Monaci had long-held the dream of securing a vineyard in Brunello and making his own wine. His dream came true in 1991 and for over twenty years he has been thrilling wine-lovers with his exceptional wines.

Located in Piancornello di S. Angelo Scalo, in the southern area of Montalcino and looking down on Maremma, the estate extends for about twenty hectares, of which 11 are used for vineyards and about 8 for olive groves. The production includes Brunello di Montalcino Docg, Rosso di Montalcino Doc and Sant’Antimo Doc.

About the vineyard

The south-facing San Angelo in Colle vineyard has galestro and lime-rich clay soils and the sangiovese fruit from here delivers wines with real charm and rounded, fine tannins.

"Bright pale red. Fresh aromas and flavors of red berries, dried herbs, licorice and tea. Clean, juicy and youthfully chewy, offering bright Sangiovese colors, aromas and flavors of tea leaf, licorice, and red berries that linger nicely on the long, violet-accented, savory, slightly peppery finish. One of the more interesting, fresher Brunellos from Agostina Pieri in years. Very well done."

"The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino is a smooth and silky interpretation of Sangiovese. It plays the elegance card very nicely and doles out a steady succession of forest berry, wild rose and balsam herb aromas. Despite that delicate touch, the wine leaves the palate clean and polished, thanks to the natural acidity and fruity brightness at its core."

"This is a serious 2013 Brunello with deep dried fruits and a herbal nose, then massive, chocolatey tannins and a hint of caramel. Then the impressively long, dry finish kicks in."

"Pale garnet. Rich nose redolent of warm bricks. Nicely balanced and not overdone. Good mid point between the concentration of Altesino and the deliberate austerity of Potazzine."

"Really good! Had this at the end of a recent tasting and despite just tasting more heavier wines this light bodied Brunello really stood out. Also, given the fact I like thicker wines, I am very impressed. Cherry, strawberry, blackberry, coffee, light leather, tobacco and light spice notes on the palate. Moderate tannins, good acidity light (+) body and good balance. A plethora of flavors (in a good way). Not my typical choice, but can’t argue with the results!"  4/5 Stars

"Good value for a great wine. Blackberry, dark cherry, cinnamon are noticed"  4.5/5 Stars

"Very opulent nose of cherries and black fruit. Also some coffee and leather. Very complex taste and long persistence"  4/5 Stars

"Great brunello, power yet elegance in great balance"  4/5 Stars

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING
