Bodegas Roda have already achieved fame in Rioja, celebrated as one of Spain's greatest wineries - and with Corimbo they are doing exactly the same thing in Ribera del Duero!

A 4 year quest to find the ideal place to grow Tempranillo led to Ribera del Duero and the perfect terroir of La Horra, where the grapes produce a wine that combines complexity with power and freshness.

The idea is not to produce the Rioja style in another region, but to make a wine true to Ribera (powerful, fruity, impressive) in the signature style of Roda (complex, elegant).

With every vintage, they get better and the 2013 is easily the best yet. At just £20.75 it is a great wine at a great price and one of Ribera's top wines!

We love this wine here at Vivino and whilst it is hard to resist now it will age beautifully for 7+ years.

However, as always with this popular wine, there is never enough to go around and our allocation is limited, so please don't delay in getting your order to us!

About the wine

This is truly great wine with real intensity ... notes of red cherries, plums and blackberries leading to more complex aromas of herbs and cassis, all rounded off by toasty oak. On the palate, fresh red fruit fills out the top notes whilst deeper black fruit, sweet spice and dark chocolate lurk beneath. A powerful, intense wine with layers of flavour and silken, ripe tannins balanced by a refreshing acidity. Extremely long on the finish, this is a beautiful drink right now, for all that it has the quality and structure to age well for some years. An excellent value Ribera from a region that can often be over-priced and uninteresting.

After exploring new frontiers of quality in Rioja with his brilliant Roda estate, Mario Rotllant founded Corimbo in 1999, assembling a number of small vineyards of the highest quality, aged between 25 & 50 years old.

Mario's intention was to make a super-fine Ribeira del Duero. This is a region where Tempranillo is King - even more so than Rioja - and in this harsh, arid landscape, it can give spectacular wines - deep and intense with layers of flavour just waiting to be coaxed from the glass...

100% Tempranillo, alcoholic fermentation takes place in oak vats and the maceration time is around 18 days. Ageing lasts around 16 months in barrels of 50% French oak and 50% American oak, allowing the wine to become wonderfully complex and rich.

About the winery

La Horra is a project by the brains behind Bodegas Roda, regarded by experts as one of the most exciting, high-quality estates in Rioja.

They produce two wines - Corimbo from 20 year old vines and Corimbo I from vines that average 40 years. Both benefit from the high altitude of the vineyards and convey elegance and balance.  Corimbo is the Spanish name for a local flower, as depicted on the label.

About the vineyard

When they were seaarching for the right vineyard site, Mario and the Roda team decided to choose the environment of La Horra for its old vineyards, deep soils where the sands are mixed with chalk and clay, and the cooler climate of the northern area of Ribera.

Bodegas La Horra is comprised of 18 hectares surrounding the winery (of which 15 are planted vineyards and 3 incredible forest).  They have also reached an agreement with two highly respected growers the Balbas Brothers, who will have an influence in the company in return for 40 hectares of very old vineyards.  Viticulture is however fully controlled by the Roda team.

94 points - James Suckling
"This is a really composed, rich and concentrated wine with a wealth of dried red flowers and red berry fruits. The palate has a plush and fluid style to it with red plum, darker berry, brambly flavors. Fresh finish."

"Beautiful wine! I feel I won't do it justice with my words. Really complex and elegant palate, full of fragrance. Really classy wine. Feels good value even at restaurant price" 4.0/5 Stars

"The nose is great, rustic with notes of cassis and a bit vegetative, like green peppers. Full bodied on the palate, dense rich tannins and balanced by a good acidity. It shows notes of plums, black cherries, cassis and clove. Great length"  5.0/5 Stars

"Superb Spanish Ribera del Duero!" 4.0/5 Stars

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING
