Made from 100 year old vines, awarded 94 points and with Gold Medals galore, we were bowled over when we tasted this wonderful Barossa Shiraz.

Soft, velvety and full of sweet black fruit, it's everything you could want from great Aussie Shiraz.

And then we saw the price and nearly fainted with shock...just £11.95 for a bottle!

We're not quite sure how Dandelion manage to get so much wine into the bottle for so little money, but we are deeply glad that they do. This must be one of Australia's greatest value for money wines!

Dandelion Vineyards are an exciting new Aussie project who make wines from a collection of old vineyards in some of Australia's greatest wine-growing areas. They may be young but they have already been named as a 5 Star winery by critic James Halliday and are clearly destined for great things.

The price to quality ratio here is so good that we can't believe prices won't go up when the rest of the world cottons onto these excellent wines. Take advantage whilst you can and pick up some of this excellent Shiraz!

About the winp

Lionheart of the Barossa is a lovely intense crimson in the glass whilst the nose is generous and aromatic, filled with lifted blueberry and plum fruit, blackberry and peppery spice, along with hints of bramble and dark chocolate. The palate is generous, soft and mouth-filling with sweet, ripe blackberries, raspberries, plums and more spice. The tannins are firm but ripe and fine and dark, chocolatey nuances run through to the very long, fruity finish. Superb Barossa Shiraz for an insanely good price!

Dandelion believe in simplicity when it comes to winemaking and it shows in their carefully thought out processes. To make this Shiraz, the grapes were hand-harvested, then gently crushed and naturally fermented for eight days, before careful basket pressing into some new (25%) but predominantly older French oak barriques to finish fermentation. After 18 months maturation and a racking in the same oak, Lionheart was bottled, without filtration or fining, to capture the essence of the vines

About the winery

In awarding Dandelion a Five Red Star Winery rating, James Halliday says of the estate, “this is a highly impressive partnership… Elena is not only the beautiful wife of industry dilettante Zar Brooks, but also an exceptionally gifted winemaker.”

Dandelion Vineyards is the venture of Zar Brooks, Elena and growers Carl Lindner and Brad Rey. The approach is remarkably simple and sees Elena making wine from a collection of beautiful old vineyards identified by Carl and Brad across the curve that runs from the Barossa, up through the Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills and down into McLaren Vale - a curve home to some of Australia's greatest wines.

About the vineyard

Grapes for this Shiraz come from an old vine vineyard in the Barossa named after Barossa’s lifelong champion of old vines, Carl Lindner. The vines on this site are ancient, gnarled and in some cases over a hundred years of age, with many still planted on their original rootstock.

These vines don’t just survive, they thrive on their own roots in some of the oldest soils on the planet.

94 Points - James Suckling
"This is very decadent and rich with blackberry, spice, meat and earth character. Full body, dense and juicy yet always refined and fresh. Classy."

Gold Medal - New Zealand International Wine Show

Gold Medal - AWC Vienna International Wine Challenge

"Clear deep red and claret. Clean nose with immediate punch of blackcurrant, super ripe plums, sweet spice and liquorice. Super full bodied, clean, low acidity and low tannin. Neat blackcurrant cordial, over ripe black plum and blackberry with sweet liquorice end. Long mega fruit finish...Viva Barossa"  4/5 Stars

"Deep garnet colour. Intense bouquet with a surprising cool climate-like hit of stewed plums, white pepper, subtle violets & burnt rubber smokiness. If tasting blind I'd be thinking central or western Victoria, but this is 100% Barossa! From ancient vines too, some over 100 yrs old. Lovely sweet plum attack, soft through the middle with slightly charry French oak and a hint of caramel on the medium long finish"  4/5 Stars

"Ohh...so velvety. So smooth...The sublime palate reveals ripe blackberries, fleshy black cherries, strawberry, chocolate, violets and delicate spices that flow elegantly across the medium-full body palate and fine lingering finish. Drinking beautifully. But more to come A fine 95/100 (4.2)"  4.2/5 Stars

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
