With his handlebar 'tache, Serge Férigoule is every inch the image of a French winemaker. Charismatic and driven, he has done more than most to raise the profile of Vacqueyras and to give it the exposure it deserves.

Serge's wines, created from 35-40 year old vines grown on some of the region's best terroir, are amongst the best to be found in Vacqueyras and in the brilliant 2015 vintage, he has created perhaps the wines of the vintage.

This Vacqueyras, named on alternating years after his daughters Floureto, Doucinello and Azalaïs, would put many Chateauneuf at many times the price to shame. A superb intensity and depth from the arid, stony soils, herbal notes from the garrigue that surrounds the vines and the kind of silky smooth elegance that is imparted by great winemaking all comes together to create a brilliant drinking experience.

Organic and bio-dynamic since 2011, Les Sang des Cailloux (an evocative 'Blood of the Stones' in English) are producing wines that should be on the short list of every wine drinker - and snapped up when you can find them!

About the wine

This is what the Southern Rhône should all be about. Beautifully ripe, dark fruit with a dusting of pepper and a herbal note reminiscent of the garrigue that is found across the region. Silky, pure fruit glides across the palate on first taste but hidden below is some serious concentration and power. Mineral and savoury on the finish, this is pretty irrestible right now - given a decent decant - but has the structure and stuffing to evolve beautifully for the next decade. Should be held up as an example of the heights Vacqueyras can achieve.

All the are grapes harvested by hand and then de-stemmed. Fermentation of the grapes is done in a natural manner, in cement cuvees with daily pumpovers. The resulting wine is raised for a minimum of 6 months in oak foudres before being bottles unfined and unfiltered.

About the winery

Serge Férigoule bought Le Sang des Cailloux in 1990, after having worked for 10 years with the former owner.

The 17 hectares all located in Vacqueyras DOC are sitauated on some of the best terroir, facing the Dentelles de Montmirail. His son, Frédéri, joined him in 2003 and they decided to certify the domain both organic and biodynamic.

About the vineyard

All of Serge’s seventeen hectares rest on the great Plateau des Garrigues, facing the Dentelles de Montmirail between Vacqueyras and Sarrians. Bathed in the sun and stirred by the mistral, the red clay, limestone, and the famous galets roulés, or rounded stones, impart a terrific intensity and depth to the wines.

Given the aridity of the soil, the vines here are naturally prone to lower yields.

This organic estate has turned out a solid, traditionally built 2015 Vacqueyras Cuvee Azalais, a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and the rest Mourvèdre and Cinsault that's made in concrete and aged in foudres. It's medium to full-bodied, filled with notes of cola, blueberries and spice, and features some firm, muscular tannins that suggest short-term cellaring and moderate age-worthiness."

"The nose has confident depth, is generous and pretty stylish, has airs of cooked red fruits. The palate strides out well, with tasty, sleek black fruits on board. It bears a bonny floral leaning, gives late black pepper. This has a good foundation, resembles a journey in a de luxe car, no bumps in the road. It holds tasty fruit, the essence of fruit, with fine powder tannins at the end. This has balance, length and freshness. It is all very calm."

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:


  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.


SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.


Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.


If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.


TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.


You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.


Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.
