"La Morra produces some of the most graceful Barolos...celebrated for their enticing bouquets" Kerin O'Keefe

Elegance and aromatic finesse are the trademarks of Barolo made in La Morra and both are found in abundance in this fantastic 2011 Tebavio Barolo.

Produced from the best nebbiolo grown on the vineyards of Tenuta L’Illuminata, in La Morra, this is great Barolo with a bouquet that explodes from the bottle and purity, elegance and great concentration of fruit on the palate.

Despite the quality, and the tiny quantities made (about 1600 cases per year), it certainly doesn't break the bank and for Barolo is terrific value at £33.95 (a saving of 22% from the usual UK price).

Unfortunately, we can only offer a few cases of this beauty, so please make sure you don't miss out!

About the wine

The Tebavio Barolo has an incredible aroma (typical of the best wines made in La Morra) with notes of violet, cinnamon, clove, cherry, vanilla and a touch of the rose petal often found in Barolo. On the palate, the richness of flavours impress and linger generously, being nicely rounded off with floral and liquorice overtones. Elegant and fragrant, this is drinking beautifully right now but will age gracefully over the next decade or so.

The top wine from Tenuta L’Illuminata, Tebavio is made from the pick of the estate’s grapes which are typically harvested between the middle and end of October.

Once in the winery, the alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, after which malolactic fermentation takes place. The wine is matured over three years before being released. The first year the wine is split, with half aged in new French oak and the other half going in to one year old French oak. In the second year, the wine goes in to 25 hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels before spending a final twelve months in bottle.

About the winery

Tenuta L'Illuminata was established by Guido Folonari, a descendant of one of Italy’s most important wine families. He knew he wanted to set out on his own but, in his own words, “What was I looking for? I didn’t know myself. I was looking for a place that would thrill me.” As it turned out, Guido found three estates, of which Tenuta L'Illuminata is one.

Located on the stunning hills of La Morra, the estate has a total of 11 hectares planted to vine in some of the area’s best sites.

Since taking over the estate at the start of the century, Guido has completely renovated the cellar and it is now kitted out with the best equipment and a range of French and Slavonian oak barrels.

About the vineyard

The estate covers 11 hectares in total and the sites include some of the best in the La Morra part of the Barolo appellation. The grapes are grown at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level where they are planted on calcareous, sand and silt soils.

94 Points - James Suckling
“Beautiful aromas of oranges, berries and chocolate with hints of hazelnuts. Full body, silky tannins and a refined finish. A fascinating red.”

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast
“This opens with enticing scents of woodland berry, iris, wild rose and a balsamic note. The palate still rather closed but offers raw red berry, chopped sage and star anise alongside bracing tannins and brisk acidity.”

"Full, firm, classic flavors and structure. Will age 10-15 years"  4.5/5 Stars

"Great Barolo - nuanced, great structure, medium body, balanced acidity, with a lingering dry fruit on the palate. Excellent value."  4.5/5 Stars

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
