"A beauty to buy by the case" robertparker.com

Cuvée Constance is a deliciously dark blend of grenache, syrah and carignan.

Richly flavoured with black fruits, liquorice and spice, this is cracking red wine and jaw-droppingly good value.

A collaboration between talented local winemaker Jean-Roger Calvet and the 'bad boy' of Bordeaux, Jean-Luc Thunevin (owner of St-Émilion's famed Château Valandraud), Thunevin-Calvet has come a long way in just a few years - from modest origins in a garage to the all singing, all dancing winery they now occupy.

And, most importantly, the wines have come a long way too!

An absolute delight of a wine, the 2015 Cuvée Constance is one of Southern France's greatest values!

About the wine

Intensely aromatic with notes of plums, blackberry and raspberry mingled with pepper, liquorice and graphite notes, the lovely ripe fruit continues onto the palate, joined by hints of fig and leather. The rich, voluptuous fruit is balanced by a fresh acidity and the entirety is framed by velvet-soft tannin.

With mineral notes from the the schist terroir and a long, spicy finish, the Constance punches so far above it's weight it will have you wondering how on earth it's not twice the price - or more!

Low yields in the vineyards help the concentration and ripeness of the fruit which is lightly-handled in the winery. There is no oak ageing; the fruit left freely to sing in this un-fined and un-filtered delight of a wine.

About the winery

Domaine Thunevin-Calvet is a partnership between talented winemaker, Jean-Roger Calvet and Jean-Luc Thunevin (owner of Château Valandraud in St. Emilion).

Local man Calvet had been working in Châteauneuf du Pape and came home to Maury, determined to make quality wines from old vine grenache and carignan. Thunevin shared the ambition and was able to provide investment and from pretty humble beginnings back in 2001, the estate now covers some 60 hectares and the ‘garage’ where the wines were once made was replaced with an all-singing, all-dancing winery in 2008.

In a comparatively short period of time, they have become known for wines that combine ripe fruit, freshness and minerality. Finding favour with critics and wine lovers the world over, demand is ever-growing.

About the vineyard

The Thunevin-Calvet vineyards are managed following organic principles and, if you happen to be passing, you may even see their mule who pulls the plough in the vineyards. Soils are most commonly schist, though some of the more recently purchased sites are clay / chalk.

94 Points - Sam Kim
A gorgeous blend of grenache, syrah and carignan, the gloriously expressed bouquet shows black/blueberry, plum, cedar, cocoa and mixed spice aromas. The palate is superbly concentrated and fleshy, delivering layers of rich texture and powerful fruit flavours, brilliantly supported by velvety texture and silky tannins."

91 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
The entry-level red from this estate is the 2015 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Cuvee Constance, and it’s a beauty to buy by the case. Black raspberry, cassis, pepper and wood smoke all emerge from this total charmer that has ample fruit and texture, and a great finish. The blend is 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Carignan aged all in concrete tanks."

"Delightful. Eucalyptus on the nose. Spice and dark berries on the tongue. Great value"  4/5 Stars

"Dark and smoky, a nice tannic bite. A terrific wine"  4/5 Stars

"Simply delightful red that is worth more than its price. Rich fruit, nice tannins and texture with a hint of spice. Discovered it on a recent trip to the region. Definite find!"  4/5 Stars

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
