Barolo is renowned for producing Italy’s finest red wines and the Barolo Liste from Damilano demonstrates why, with a now quite rare example of traditional Barolo-making.

Made with 100% Nebbiolo grapes, this rich, traditional "King of Wines" is made from the single vineyard of Liste by the Damilano family, winemakers here since 1890.

"Well-proportioned and balanced, with an energetic finish...a traditional, muscular style." said the Wine Spectator and we think they've hit the nail on the head.

This is top-notch single vineyard Barolo, a seriously good wine. And with a 23% saving, it's rather good value as well!

"Radiant, open and already quite expressive, the 2011s show terrific potential" Antonio Galloni

About the wine

The wine has a true Barolo nose with aromas of red berries, liquorice, tobacco and cocoa with hints of rose too. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with strong earthy flavours sitting alongside the vibrant, red berried fruit. Wonderfully persistent. A wine with deep fruit and fine concentration, it is structured and powerful. With a good decant it's approachable now but will continue to improve across the next decade.

This is Barolo at its most traditional; from the Liste single-vineyard which is famed for its powerful, sinewy wines. The wine making is simple with a twenty day, temperature-controlled fermentation that is followed by 24 months ageing in large oak barrels. The wine is aged for a further year in bottle before being released.

About the winery

The Damilano family business dates back to 1890 when Giuseppe Borgogno, the great grandfather of the winery’s current owners, began to vinify his own estate wines.

Paolo, Mario and Guido are the fourth generation here, based near the village of Barolo and with 53 ha of vineyards across the region, including 10 ha of Cannubi, possibly the regions most famous vineyard. (If you’re in the vicinity there’s also a rather splendid restaurant at the cellar, Massimo Camia.)

Unlike many, they have given up their French barriques and returned to the traditional Piedmontese botte, believing (quite rightly) that Italian grapes have plenty of structure in their own right and need no support from French oak. The results are wines that express the character of their individual vineyards and the vintage.

About the vineyard

Whilst it doesn't have the same fame as its next door neighbours such as Cerequio and Sarmassa, Liste is still an important cru. Only about 4ha in size it is split between 3 owners with Damilano owning half. Situated just north-west of Barolo itself, the vineyard has both east and south-east facing slopes.

With soils of chalk and limstone and an average vine age of 35 years, this site traditionally makes structured, brooding wines that age beautifully. Because of this, the Liste is releaised a year later than all of Damilano's other crus.

"This is a monumental wine that shows the best aspects of the Nebbiolo grape. Gorgeous aromatics packed with red berries, spice, and mineral lead to a palate that is balanced and inviting. Silky layers of dark cherry, raspberry, and strawberry are well-integrated and focused. This is a steal... It drinks beautifully now and will continue to evolve in the cellar for at least 7 years."

"Rich, this displays black cherry, black currant, tobacco and tar flavors. Well-proportioned and balanced, with an energetic finish that echoes fruit, earth and tar elements. A traditional, muscular style."
robert-parker-logo.jpg95 Points - Monica Larner (2010 vintage)
"The 2010 Barolo Liste is utterly seductive and charming from start to long finish. This wine awards a high pleasure quota with the proverbial opulence and hedonistic plumpness that is not easy to achieve with the austere Nebbiolo grape. The Liste vineyard delivers the natural characteristics that are appropriate for dark and shapely wines."

"Wonderful wine. Fruits, mint, light notes of pepper and rose"  5/5 Stars

"Rich, juicy, soft, elegant but also with a bold 'tight' ending, great structure with enough acidity and tannin to age gracefully"  4/5 Stars

"Stunning!!...Beautiful rich palate, dark fruits, earthy, inviting softish tannins, great mouthfeel, long lingering aftertaste, some sweeter notes at the end. Great wine" 4.5/5 Stars

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
