Awarded Platinum at the Decanter World Wine Awards for 'Best Chilean Red Blend' and a Gold at the International Wine Challenge in 2017, this Chilean red is a bit of a star!

Critics praised its ‘elegance and firm, delicious fruit’, ‘sleek’ quality and ‘great intensity and concentration’.

Today we are offering you the chance to try the judges' top pick for just £18.10, which is an 21% discount on the UK RRP.

The Family Collection is the star in the portfolio of Aresti Wines, one of Chile's most successful and well-regarded wineries. The wine takes its inspiration from Bordeaux and, like many of the wines of that region, is a blend of five different varieties.

The wine isn’t the shy and retiring type but is full-bodied and rich. It wears its oak aging elegantly and the fruit is ripe, generous and very nicely balanced.

Wonderfully easy to drink right now, it will age and improve for at least the next five years.

About the wine

Definitely not a shrinking violet! This is a powerful, fleshy wine with a remarkable structure and complexity. An intense ruby red color in the glass and blackcurrant, plum, coffee and spice notes on the nose. The palate is full-bodied with beautifully ripe fruit and spice combining with soft, ripe tannins and a bright acidity to balance the wine perfectly on the long finish. Delicious to drink now, it could definitely age and improve over the next five years.

The Family Collection is a Bordeaux-style blend of five varieties from 60 year old vines. Each variety is aged in oak barrels separately for one year before being blended. Afterwards the final wine is aged for further six months in oak.

About the winery

In 1951, Vicente Aresti Astica bought the Bellavista Estate in the Curicó Valley where he steadily built a reputation for making quality wine.

Today, Vincente's daughters Begoña and Ana María Aresti López carry on what he started, and run what is now one of Chile's most successful and well-regarded wineries. Their wines are produced entirely from grapes grown on their own vineyards and they take inspiration from France for their style and blends.

About the vineyard

The vineyards are situated in Curicó, Chile’s largest wine valley. With a great climate, alluvial soil and a long ripening season, the grapes have ideal conditions in which to ripen and acquire depth of flavour.

The Family Collection is sourced from 3 vineyards:

Micaela: Deep clay-loam soil with a rocky profile below one meter of depth, ideal for red varieties.

Peñaflor: Deep clay-loam, slightly acidic soil with gentle slopes mostly used to grow Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Carménère, and Pinot Noir and Merlot to a lesser extent.

La Reserva: Variable (from clay-loam to sandy) soil, with medium-low fertility, rolling hills and different sun exposure, perfect for the production of a wide range of grape varieties..

95 Points & Platinum Award - Decanter WWA 2017
"Lovely combination of sweet notes of cinnamon, dry figs, ripe plums and the herbal Chilean finger print. Sleek and well managed cool palate with great intensity and concentration. Very well integrated alcohol and log layered finish."

92 Points - Luis Gutierrez
"The 2012 Family Collection is a red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 20% Merlot, 12% Syrah, 10% Petite Sirah and 8% Petit Verdot from old vines aged separately in oak barrels for one year, blended and put back in barrels for a further six months. It has a balsamic nose, quite showy, with bright fruit and a sense of light. The palate is a lot less oaky than in previous occasions. It's powerful and well-oaked but with stuffing and balance, in an XL style. Quite a surprise."

"This wine goes a long way to show that there are some seriously good wines from Chile available in the UK. Powerful and rich. Lots of deep fruit, plum, blackcherry, Casis. Chocolate and liquorice. Sweet spice from the oak. Even some lighter floral notes. Full bodied, alcoholic. Tannins are prominent but well integrated. Still developing"  4.5/5 Stars

"Great depth of colour on this classic 5-way New World Bordeaux blend. Pronounced nose with wafts of black current & sweet vanilla oak. Medium plus tannins are well integrated on a full flavoured & full bodied palate. No doubt will improve with time & great with a good steak!4.5/5 Stars

"Some seriously good wines come from Chile. Crushed fennel seed, sarsaparilla fruit, and a hint of white pepper on the nose. The palate gets even more complex with blueberry and light chocolate. Ripe fine tannins add to the structure"  4.5/5 Stars

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
