South Africa is one of the most exciting places for wine on the planet right now  - pioneering winemakers discovering ancient soils and exciting new terroir to create delicious wines with a clear sense of place.

Chief amongst these pioneers is Bruwer Raats, known as the 'Chenin King' - one of South Africa's best and most exciting winemakers!

Together with his cousin, he has teamed up to create B Vintners, dedicated to creating a limited collection of single vineyard, hand-crafted wines that aim to source grapes from some of the most interesting vineyards in the Cape.

Their first vintage was only in 2014 yet they have exploded onto the South African wine stage, wowing critics and consumers alike!

Haarlem to Hope 2016 is an unusual white blend of four grapes, with chenin blanc and semillon the majority, backed up by a touch of two muscat varieties Muscat De Frontignan and Muscat D'Alexandrie.

Great wines are all about balance and style and Haarlem to Hope is a perfect example. The old vine chenin gives the wine a wonderful purity of white orchard fruit, whilst the semillon is all about depth, spice and texture.

Haarlem to Hope is a superb wine and it comes as little surprise to learn that it was awarded the maximum 5 out of 5 stars in the most recent Platter Wine Guide (South Africa's wine bible) and a brilliant 4.2 stars from Vivino drinkers...

Regrettably little is available though, so make sure you don't miss out!

About the wine

The wine’s bouquet is alluring and generous with a balanced mix of fruit, spice, perfume, peach skin, nectarine, ginger and yellow flowers. The depth and complexity of the wine comes through more evidently on the palate, bound nicely together with fine, vibrant acidity that brings tension and vibrancy. The fruit is given depth by hints of spice, lemongrass and ginger.

Fresh, focused and pure with a long, almost saline, mouthwatering finish, this is very exciting white wine and a clear example of just how good South Africa can be! With the warmer, sunnier days now upon us, this is just the wine you want to hand!

The winemaking is attentive but with a belief in minimal intervention and restraint. The bunches of chenin blanc and semillon are whole-pressed, and the juice is then fermented and aged in old oak with ten months spent on the lees to give the wine greater depth and texture. The muscat grapes meanwhile are fermented and aged in stainless steel to retain their delicate aromas and freshness. At the end of maturation, the wine is blended and bottled.

About the winery

B Vintners is a joint venture between Bruwer Raats, owner and winemaker of Raats Family Wines and his cousin, Gavin Bruwer Slabber, who joined Bruwer as winemaker and viticulturalist in 2009.

B Vintners focus on creating a small collection of single vineyard, hand-crafted wines. Minimal intervention, with an organic approach, gives wines with lovely texture and complexity.

About the vineyard

All the vineyards are planted in the Stellenbosch area, on old and weathered soils of decomposed granite and / or Table Mountain sandstone, in close proximity to False Bay.

"
Spicy upfront with a pure yellow fruit core and a salty / savoury finish. Elegant, poised and extremely charming."

95 points - Winemag.co.za
"A most alluring nose of flowers and herbs before lime, lemon and white peach – less heady and more haunting than previous vintages. The palate is light but intensely flavoured. Tightly wound and wonderfully fresh, the finish very savoury, it’s one of those wines that succeeds by virtue of its elusiveness rather than its substance. Supremely well judged."

"Delicate but firm. Commands attention as it seduces you with floral aromatic with pear and lime. The palate shows soft pear and lime with a balanced acid. Delicate floral tones finishes a lingering aftertaste"  4.5/5 Stars

"Fresh nose, pears and a hint of pineapple. Followed up nicely with a salty minerality. Good balance, still young"  4/5 Stars

"Very interesting wine! Pear, peach, some minerality on the finish!"  4/5 Stars

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
