We are very pleased to offer this rather special Spanish wine today not only because it is one of the greatest value Spanish whites we have ever sold, but also because it showcases both a great wine-producing region and its grape varieties.

Finca Vinoa 2016 is the recipient of two 95 point scores - one from Decanter (rated as one of their top 3 Galician whites) and one from the International Wine Challenge 2018.

And yet, despite the critical acclaim, Finca Vinoa is extremely good value for money as well - an almost unbelievably low £13.95 per bottle!

Ribeiro is a small region, tucked in to a corner of north-west Spain in Galicia, abut 30 miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean. The ‘jewel’ of Ribeiro’s grapes is treixadura – a slow ripening variety that produces fine, aromatic wines.

Finca Viñoa is a project that is all about shining the spotlight on Ribeiro and is a textbook example of just how good these wines can be.

Wonderfully mineral with a saline edge, the wine is bright and fresh yet with a luscious, soft and creamy palate of ripe, white orchard fruits.

This is an excellent buy at a great price!

About the wine

For far too long , Ribeiro has flown under the radar of consumers, its best wines barely making it out of the region. All this is starting to change though, as the world cottons on to the supremely great wines, especially whites, being made here at prices other, more well-known areas cannot hope to match.

An intense yellow color with brilliant golden reflections, Finca Viñoa 2016 is a wine that is both nuanced and richly textured. On the nose there is a predominance of varietal fruit (apple) but also notable aromas of exotic fruits, as well as of quince, apricot , plum and pulp of ripe citrus. In the mouth, the fruit has remarkable fleshiness and weight and a saline minerality that comes from the schistous, granite soils. The wine is wonderfully ripe, even creamy, but without any loss of zippy acidity and freshness. A fascinating white from a region that has flown under the radar for too long.

The harvest is manual and takes place in the early hours of the morning to preserve the freshness of the fruit and its best aromatic values. Likewise, a cold room contributes to this effect. Subsequently, the grapes are destemmed and macerated in cold for three hours. Only the must juice is used and, after fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine remained in contact with its lees for seven months until bottling in May 2017.

About the winery

José González is a visionary Galician who has created a project that ultimately pays homage to the territory of the D.O. Ribeiro, and particularly to its main river, the Avia.

Together with his brother Javier, José has been exploring his native valley for two decades in order to give form to a winery that would best represent the region and its enormous potential.

Ther first purchase, in 2001, was of six hectares in Cabanelas (Ourense), which were planted exclusively with red varieties. In 2003, they acquired A Viñoa, the property to which they have added other small neighboring plots and which has given a definitive name to the project.

Finca Viñoa 2011 was the first commercial release of this lovely white and since 2013 the winery has been part of the Grandes Pagos Gallegos de Viticultura Tradicional, a select group of wineries (Pazo de Casanova, Fraga do Corvo and Quinta de Couselo) that advocate a return to the most traditional and quality-focused winemaking.

About the vineyard

In order that they might source the best vineyards in Ribeiro’s Avia Valley, brothers José and Javier Gonzalez chatted with the local elders about the various sites in the areas and grape growing back in time. Ribeiro is the second oldest wine region in Spain and their objective was to put the region and the almost-forgotten indigenous varieties back on the map.

Eventually they decided upon twenty-three vineyard parcels on the slope known as Finca Viñoa that had previously being a ‘grand cru’ and painstakingly terraced the 12 hectares that are located between 180 meters and 350 meters of altitude. The terrace walls are made from granite and the soils are a mixture of schist and granite.

95 points - Decanter
"
Great balance, intertwining approachability and complexity. Long and complex with citrus and white fruits with some herbal notes… Ripe and fleshy wine that is wonderfully complex with a citrus edge, making it deliciously zesty. A hint of minerality and a floral character too. The length goes on and on… This is saline and fresh with great minerality combined with tropical fruit and a rich and creamy texture. It is weighty but very balanced, and the ripe fruit makes for a very appealing wine."

"Perfumed peach, pear and pink grapefruit with some minerality. The fruit is honeyed in the mouth yet crisp and dry. A lovely, confident wine with mineral complexity and persistence."

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING
