"Possibly one of the best white wines I’ve ever had in my life!" Vivino user

Silvio Jermann is a name to conjure with in Italy!

Situated in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, a region bordering Austria, Slovenia and the Adriatic and one that is renowned for producing white wines, the Jermann family have been making wine since 1881.

Today, their wines are internationally acclaimed as among the finest white wines in Italy and at the forefront is their flagship Chardonnay, the unusually named Where Dreams Have No End.

Silvio makes extraordinary, intense, multi-layered wines that set the benchmark for Italian whites. His inspired winemaking and individual style needs no gimmicks or trickery; just great quality grapes, carefully tended both in the vineyard and winery. He allows the region's superlative terroir to speak for itself, using tiny vineyards he personally monitors to produce unique wines.

Where Dreams is 97% Chardonnay with 3% of a 'secret' grape (most probably Pinot Bianco) - a wine with incredible depth and purity, wonderful ripe fruit and a creamy richness, it is deservedly acclaimed by many as Italy's best Chardonnay and one of its best white wines.

At just £38.75 per bottle, the Where Dreams is serious value for a wine that is rightly regarded as world-class, a wine able to compete with fine white Burgundy at a price they can't beat!

About the wine

Straw-yellow in the glass, this absolutely delicious Chardonnay has an intense bouquet that offers charm and complexity - ripe citrus fruit mingle with more tropical notes, honey, melted butter, vanilla and wild flowers. The palate is concentrated, multi-layered and intense, full of the creamy, ripe fruit that the nose promises but also with a mineral, flinty note that adds to the wine's complexity. Perfectly balanced and with an exceptionally long finish, this is without a doubt world-class Chardonnay.

Where Dreams is dedicated to and named after U2's 'Where the streets have no name', released the same year as the first ever vintage.

To make the Where Dreams, a modern pneumatic press is used that allows a gentle pressing of the grapes. Fermentation is begun spontaneously in a steel tank using native yeasts. The wine then spends 11 months aging in small, 300 litre barrels of French and Austrian oak, half of which are new and the other half used. It does not undergo malolactic fermentation.

About the winery

Jermann was founded in 1881 in the quiet village of Villanova di Farra by Austrian-born Anton Jermann. Today, the winery is led by Silvio Jermann, grandson of Anton, and Silvio’s son Michele.

Silvio left Friuli in the 1970s to explore winemaking in other white wine regions. When he returned, he introduced stainless steel tanks and temperature controlled fermentations to preserve his wine's aromatic freshness and protect it from oxidation.

Silvio and Michele carry on that spirit of modern tradition with one foot firmly in the future and the other rooted in the past. Jermann still uses the original Villanova location and in 2007 christened a second winery in Ruttars that combines 19th century respect for natural materials and terrain with state-of-the-art technologies.

At both wineries, Jermann continues to produce some of Italy’s most iconic white wines while preserving the character of each varietal and region.

About the vineyard

Where Dreams is produced at the Jermann's Ruttars winery is in the crescent-shaped Collio zone near the Slovenian border to the east.

The vineyards are located in the area known as Ronco del Fortino, where the rolling hills are composed of chalk and clay marl banded with sandstone and cooled by the Bora wind off the Adriatic Sea. A wide shift between day and nighttime temperatures endows wines from Collio with vibrant acidity and deeply-perfumed aromatics.

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
