This is a bit of a find!

Having done all the hard work of making a stunning fruit bomb of a wine from 100 year old vines, Savoni made one wee error in the paperwork - and as a result of intricate Italian legislation weren't allowed to write the grape variety on the label...

Cue a hasty re-think! The result? The rather attractive label you see here which may hint somewhat to what's inside the bottle (ZinFanDel anyone?).

Unable to sell to their usual clients, we snapped up as much as we can  - and you'll be pleased we did!

ZFD lies somewhere between a full-blooded Californian Zinfandel and a powerful Amarone - but at a price you'll never see either of them for.

A powerhouse of a wine, rich with sweet, ripe fruit that flows across the palate with a silky smoothness, ZFD is just incredible value at only £11.95 per bottle!

About the wine

What a delicious fruit bomb this is! Powerful aromas of ripe and juicy black cherries, of plums, blackberries, wild strawberries and blueberries mingle with notes of oak and vanilla, Indian spices, chocolate and undergrowth. On the palate, the ZFD is sumptuous, rich and silky with opulent layers of ripe fruit, spice and chocolate. An undercurrent of freshness provides a lovely counterpoint to the intense, sweet fruit. Perfect Primitivo enjoyment from Puglia: a wine full of sunshine, fruit, velvet and silk.

Zinfandel or Primitivo?

The Californian Zinfandel and the Italian Primitivo both originated from the Croatian Crljenak grape. But where Zinfandel today has become a celebrity grape variety which sells for large amounts of money in California, Primitivo is still relegated to being a rather over-looked grape, whose wines you drink between major Italian wine experiences such as Brunello, Barolo and Amarone.

One reason for this is that the Primitivo grape is mainy grown in Italy's boot-heel, Puglia, where growers have only a fraction of the resources that most Californian winemakers splurge on fields, equipment and manpower. Puglia's best Primitivo wines are produced in and around the windy and extremely dry zone of Manduria, where the wines can achieve a phenomenal richness and depth - and, of course, they cost a fraction of their Californian counterparts.

"Yum! I’ve been tasting a lot of vanilla in my wines and I think this has it too. Good sweetness, nice and round in the mouth, good fruitiness. This’ll go down easy!"  4/5 Stars

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
