Following on from our hugely successful offer of the Gran Appasso Rosé, we are pleased to present its sibling, the fantastically drinkable Gran Appasso Rosso!

An unusual blend of Negroamaro, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon from the sun-bleached, old vine vineyards of Puglia, this delicious red simply shouts of its sunny Southern Italian origins.

Gran Appasso Rosso is made using the Passito process, which means the grapes are allowed to dry on the vines, concentrating and intensifying the flavours before being hand harvested, pressed and fermented.

The result is an absolute crowd-pleaser of a wine, full of dark, spicy, ripe fruit but with a surprising balance.

A Vivino UK exclusive, this 2017 vintage has already picked up 98/99 points from Luca Maroni and a Gold Medal.

For just £10.75 this is an absolute steal - don't miss it!

About the wine

This is an unusual blend, but one that really works! Intensely aromatic with wild dark berries, plum and chocolate, hints of eucalyptus and mediterraean herbs. On the palate there is huge fruit flavor and intensity. Full bodied and well balanced, it displays concentration and power but in a balanced manner. The deliciously juicy, slightly sweet ripe fruit carries through into the long, spicy finish. A highly enjoyable wine that will make friends with everyone who tastes it!

To make the Grand Appasso, the grapes are allowed to dry on the vines before being harvested by hand. This gives the grapes a great concentration and power. The grapes undergo a long fermentation with maceration at controlled temperature before being matured in steel tanks and then bottled.

About the winery

Femar Vini was established in 1987 and operates from a very modern winery at Monte Porzio Catone which lies on the boundaries of Frascati, Monte Porzio Catone and Agro Romano. Femar Vini own approximately 40 hectares of vneyards in Lazio but also work with grapes and wines provided by their associated farms in other southern Italian regions and in particular Puglia.

The company has a philosophy based on the search for absolute quality, and it has acheived decidedly ambitious targets within a decade, secure in the knowledge that it is based in an area which repays the efforts of those who work with serious intent.

About the vineyard

The grapes for the Gran Appasso Rosso are grown in the slightly hilly hinterland near the coast in Puglia.

Weathered sand, loam, lime and loess soil form the basis of the vineyards. Tertiary pebble layers provide perfect drainage and ensure sufficient water even in the hot summer of southern Italy. The cool sea breeze, which carries fine winds through the vines and foliage 24 hours a day gives the wine a lovely freshness along with concentration and power.

"Raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, oak and pepper on the palate. Lingering fruit, spuce, and smooth tannins on the long finish"  4/5 Stars

"Slightly sweet, notes of raisin, dried cherry, prune and spice. This is almost a poor mans amarone, nice complex flavors with a long lasting finish."  4/5 Stars

"I like it! It smells of a raisin combined with a thimble berry. Medium bodied with some chewy tannins. Very well balanced with wood, spice and tea on a long finish. Definitely worth a big look"  4/5 Stars

"Excellent PQR. Can only echo positive comments made about this wine. Dry berries. Long lasting. Subtle tobacco notes. Really enjoyed it."  4/5 Stars

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING
