San Marzano can't seem to put a foot wrong at the moment. Quite possibly the best producer in Puglia, this Collezione Cinquanta is another triumph.

With 98 points from Italian wine guru Luca Maroni, a Grand Gold Medal and 'Best in Show' award for Italian red from the prestigious Mundus Vini competition - not to mention 4.3/5 Stars from almost 4000 Vivino reviewers - the rich, powerful Collezione is a brilliant value at just £18.45!

Collezione Cinquanta means Collection Fifty as it was first produced for the 50th anniversary of the winery. Unusually, it is a blend of complex 2012 Primitivo and young, fruity 2013 Negroamaro, as the winemakers decided that these two were the perfect combination - hence the wine can only be described as Non-Vintage.

This wine is all about enjoyment and is loaded with soft, sweet ripe fruit. Unfotunately, little is made and we can only offer a very limited amount. Make sure you don't miss out!

About the wine

A deep ruby red colour in the glass with purple tints, the Collezione has an intense and complex bouquet with notes of prune and jammy red fruit mixed with the spicy scent of vanilla and liquorice. Rich, powerful and concentrated on the palate, it is packed full of sweet ripe fruit. A full-bodied wine, it finishes extremely long with elegant tannins and a soft, sweetness.

It is produced with Primitivo and Negroamaro grapes, harvested entirely by hand in September. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. Subsequently the wine is aged in French oak barriques for about 12 months before being bottled.

About the winery

In 1962, 19 vine growers from San Marzano, whose families had farmed the land for generations, combined their efforts to establish 'Cantine San Marzano'. Through the decades this cooperative has grown significantly, attracting over 1200 vine growers, using modern and technologically advanced vinification techniques to produce elegant wines, while paying homage to the ancient Apulian wine traditions. Nowadays, the fusion of time honoured tradition and passion, with contemporary techniques, enables this winery to produce wines with distinctive varietal and regional characteristics, which wonderfully reflect the local terroir.

About the vineyard

The vines for the Collezione are sited in San Marzano in Puglia, the region best suited for growing both Primitivo and Negroamaro. 50 year old bush vines, they are grown at an altitude of around 100 meters above sea level. The soil is clayey and not very deep, with a good presence of rocks.

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
