"The best winemaker in the appellation of Brunello di Montalcino"  Wine Spectator

Siro Pacenti is one of the star estates in Montalcino and so we are thrilled to have this wine on offer today for £58.75a superb price given the incredible quality here.

The key factor in this wine’s brilliance is that it is made from grapes sourced from the property’s old vines.

The fruit that comes from these vines has a terrific intensity and concentration that is beautifully represented in the final wine. You’ll find notes of plum, black cherry, sweet spice and herbs; all wrapped in silky smooth tannins.

Winemaker, Giancarlo Pacenti, is renowned for his perfectionist approach and his keen attention to detail and the wines he produces are elegant, refined and balanced. They have all the power of traditional Brunello power combined with sweet, ripe fruit.

This 2012 Siro Pacenti is not just celebrated by the critcs but is loved by Vivino reviewers too, receiving an excellent 4.2 stars in this vintage.

A very lovely wine to drink now or hold, Siro Pacenti's Brunello is a masterpiece.

"No other (Brunello) producer has succeeded in crafting wines of this much textural beauty and refinement.” Antonio Galloni, Vinous

About the wine

This old vine Brunello di Montalcino is an intense garnet red in the glass. The nose is deep and complex, featuring initial notes of ripe berry fruit, black cherries and raspberry jam, followed by tones of leather, licorice, spices and undergrowth. Full-bodied and intense in the mouth, it is a structured and elegant wine, yet one that has plenty of muscular power hiding beneath the lovely primary fruit. With silky tannins and a long, complex finish, this is a truly excellent Brunello.

Grapes are sourced from two vineyards with vines that are over 35 years old. These are hand-harvested before fermentation in stainless steel. Afterwards the wine is aged in 225 litre, French oak barrels for two years.

About the winery

Named after its founder, Siro Pacenti was established in 1970. The reins were handed to Giancarlo in 1988 and it is under his stewardship that that property has become one of the most widely respected estatess in Brunello.

Quality drives every decision; Giancarlo has a well-earned reputation for his modern and perfectionist approach to winemaking. He’s at ease with tough decisions and in the tough 2002 vintage, elected not to make a Brunello di Montalcino, instead putting his best fruit in to the Rosso di Montalcino wine.

A new winery was built between 2002 and 2004.

About the vineyard

The property has two distinct vineyard holdings.

The first is Pelagrillli, at the base of the Montalcino hill where the vines are planted in clay and sandy soils at an altitude of 350 meters. The wines from here are elegant and aromatic.

Piancornello is the other vineyard and here the soils are rich in minerals, pebbles and ground rock. The climate is warmer and the resulting wines are structured and potent, with sweet, round tannins.

The Siro Pacenti estate practices sustainable agriculture across its vineyards.

98 points - Monty Waldin

Giancarlo Pacenti’s selection of old vines uses age and experience to add a velvety wrap around firm, crunchy, beautifully focussed tannins. This is a crowd-pleaser with brains."

95 points - James Suckling
Aromas of ripe fruit such as sweet strawberries and hints of orange peel and chocolate. Medium to full body, soft and velvety tannins and a flavorful finish. Riper style."

94+ points - Monica Larner
"The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Vecchie Vigne boasts a beautifully saturated ruby color that appears healthy and bright. The aromas are presented with precision and balance. A wine like this offers irrefutable evidence that old vines are the best remedy in a hot and dry vintage. The wine's various elements are intact and focused. Dark cherry, candied plum, exotic spice, tar and licorice form a united front"

93+ points - Ian D'Agata
"Dark red with an amber tinge. Ripe red cherry, sweet spices, grilled beef and blood orange, plus hints of cedar and new oak. Enters sweet and broad, then tighter and structured, but with refined tannins providing support to the sweetly spicy red fruit flavors. The finish is long and very pure. There’s a depth to this wine that the classico bottling does not have, a dpeth of flavor that derives from the old vines."

"Ruby red. Impressive elegant nose with lots of ripe red berries a hint of herbs and spices multilayered and complex. Full body with soft tannins and super long finish"  4.5/5 Stars

"Instant favorite. Amazing purity and elegance, clean and fresh fruit. Light red berries, menthol, creamy caramel, nougat and red currant on the nose. Feather light elegant body, sharp and precise tannins, high acidity. Accessible but will benefit from more cellar time.4.5/5 Stars

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.
