"…one of Tuscany’s true cult wines...It has the race and the breed of Grand Cru Burgundy. Think of Romanee-Conti's La Tache" Wine Spectator

Rare praise indeed!

But then this beautiful Sangiovese has always been a prime example of Tuscany's finest craftsmanship and its pure expression of fruit and terroir has a lot in common with the very best Burgundy...

Testamatta is the finest wine made by Bibi Graetz, artist turned winemaker, and the 2015 is the finest vintage yet - awarded an almost perfect 99 points by James Suckling.

From the wine's beautiful silky elegance to the hand-painted labels, Testamatta is a testament to Bibi's skill and artistry. Wine as art.

Created from some of Tuscany's finest old vines, Testamatta is a Super-Tuscan gem that is scooped up by collectors world-wide  - and with only 1500 cases made, it doesn't last long.

This is wine at the level of Tuscan greats like Ornellaia and Sassicaia - and in 2015 outscores them both, yet is a third cheaper than both!

Only 100 cases made it to these shores, so we can only offer a few bottles of this superlative Tuscan.

A wine not to be missed!

"One of the most original and off-the-radar expressions of Sangiovese you will ever taste" robertparker.com

Please note that the wine is en route to our warehouse and delivery will be in circa 2 weeks.

 About the wine

"These are highly singular, expressive wines that merit serious consideration." Antonio Galloni

A dark and deep colour with ripe, black cherry fruit, wild red berries, warm leather and jasmine notes on the nose. There are also subtle, deeper notes of cedar, liquorice and dark chocolate. The palate is intense, deep and powerful with blackberry nuances and a long, beautifully-sustained finish. Supremely elegant with an astonishingly silky texture, there is a riveting balance between the wine’s considerable structure and fine fruit character. A fine example of the greatness of old vine Sangiovese, Tuscany and Bibi Graetz himself.

Testamatta is Sangiovese in its purest form. The fruit comes from old vines (between 50 and 75 years of age), grown on galestro and clay soils. Yields are judiciously managed to ensure the best quality of grapes with rich, complex flavours.

Once in the winery, fermentation takes place in 225 litre open-top barriques with 6 to 8 manual punch-downs taking place each day. The wine is aged in French barrels for 18 months and only a very modest 5% of these are new, so careful are Bibi and his team to ensure that nothing gets in the way of letting the Sangiovese shine in this stunning solo show.

The label is one of Bibi's paintings and reflects the wine’s layers of flavour.

About the winery

A graduate of the Academia dell’Arte in Florence, Bibi Graetz is as gifted at the easel as he is in the vineyard.

The familiar refrain that making fine wine is art, rather than science, is borne out by the self-taught Bibi. He began with a small two-hectare vineyard that was part of his parent’s Tuscan castle in 2000 and since then has acquired over 30 hectares of vineyard holdings across Tuscany.

Bibi Graetz is widely acknowledged to be one of Tuscany’s leading winemakers with a deft touch and a wonderfully creative approach.

About the vineyard

Bibi Graetz began with a modest vineyard on his parent’s property, to the north of Florence in 2000.  From the start he committed himself to working with older sangiovese vines; relishing their potential for delivering generous yet elegant wines.

Over time he has hunted down prime old vines throughout Tuscany – most famously on the Isola de Gigilo, just off the Tuscan coast. Today, his holdings stretch to over 30 hectares, all of which are managed organically.

99 points - James Suckling
A stunning wine. This is the best Testamatta ever made. Fascinating aromas of red fruits, tea, bark and wet soil as well as fresh leather. Full body, silky tannins and a juicy finish. I love the tension and texture of this great red. So gorgeous to taste now but better in 2021."

"Super-Tuscan! A gorgeous one! Superb ageing potential, these can easily last 15 years and only become greater as they age...Superb nose, full of berries. Perfect balance, strongh yet enjoyable acidity, mild tannins"  4.5/5 Stars

"Fantastic smoky chocolate plums... Unique Sangiovese that is worth the money 4.5/5 Stars

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
