“Casanova di Neri is one of the shining stars of Montalcino… " robertparker.com

This is an amazing opportunity to buy a great Brunello from one of the area’s finest producers at a great price!

Casanova di Neri have been making fine Brunello wines since 1971 when the family bought their first vineyards in the area. Their search for the finest sites has never abated and today they have an impressive 63 hectare holding.

Tenuta Nuova is a single vineyard, a site never before planted with Sangiovese before Casanova di Neri identified it as having the potential for greatness. 20 years on from the release of their first vintage, they have been proved correct - a number of the vintages have even received the magical 100 point score from critics!

2012 was a superb Brunello vintage and this 2012 Tenuta Nuova shows exactly why - a huge 4.5 score from over 800 Vivino reviewers for this powerful, balsamic-scented, black-fruited wine that has impressive elegance to temper its power. .

We only have a few cases to offer, so make sure you don't miss out!

About the wine

This outstanding Brunello has an intense and expressive nose; the fruit is black with hints of leather, balsamic and spice. The palate is perfectly structured, the fruit judiciously framed in silky tannins. Persistent, rich, powerful and with extraordinary length, this is a wine that oozes quality.

The wine will shine all the brighter if you open it an hour or two before drinking or decant it lightly. As you might expect for a wine of this pedigree, it will also age beautifully for at least another decade.

The hand-harvested and carefully selected grapes are destemmed and a spontaneous fermentation follows, without the addition of artificial yeasts, in open, cone-shaped fermenters. Afterwards the wine is aged in oak barrels for three years and for a further 12 months in bottle, prior to being released.

About the winery

Casanova di Neri was established in 1971 when Giovanni Neri bought a large estate within Montalcino. For almost fifty years the estate has been focused on identifying the finest sites for the sangiovese grosso grape.

In 1991, Giacomo Neri took over the management of the property and the winemaking. Attention to detail and the drive for ever-improving quality remains at the core of the Casanova di Neri ethos. The vineyards are meticulously managed and the selection of casks – their size and origin – are always carefully considered.

About the vineyard

Casanova di Neri has seven individual vineyards covering a total of 63 hectares in Montalcino.

The diversity of their soils, microclimate and vine age all contribute to the individuality of the estate’s wines. Vineyard management is meticulous and as they say, “one thing we’re truly proud and confident of: our vineyards, their quality and their history"

99 points, Luca Gardini
"It’s the bomb! Not a very technical comment, but one that renders the idea better than a list of descriptors, even though they are present in great quantity, as much on the nose as in the taste. Not cerebral but direct, proposing a great deal in a vivid and well-articulated manner. A finish of balsamic notes and sweet spices. Acidic tannins and a great persistence."

96 points - Monica Larner
This edition of Casanova di Neri's celebrated single-vineyard wine opens to a luminous garnet color and exuberant fruit aromas. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova offers a lot to the bouquet, from sweet cherry aromas to savory tones of tobacco and leather. This wine shows a powerful inner motor of flavor concentration and density that propels it forward. All that density and richness wraps thickly over the palate. This is a lasting wine of brawn and muscle."

95 points - James Suckling
"Very fresh and floral on the nose with rose petals, cherries and hot stones. Medium to full body, linear and fine tannins and a fresh finish. So linear and focused. Wow."

94 points - Wine Spectator
"Precise balance sets the stage for cherry, black currant, violet and tobacco flavors in this smooth, intense red. The tannins are present yet well-integrated, and this persists with echoes of fruit and tobacco. Reveals an element of spice on the aftertaste."

"Beautiful nose of spice and tobacco. Some light chocolate and sea air. Nice complex nose. Wonderful finish with nice tannins. Noticeable tannins but a long and balanced finish."  4.5/5 Stars

"Still a little young but already super beautiful. Black berries, damp forest dirt and citrus flowers on the nose. Elegant and powerful in the mouth"  4.5/5 Stars

"One of the best Brunello’s I’ve had. Bold, dark and complex" 4.5/5 Stars

"Leather is there and some amazing fruit to it. Cherry, Berry and beautiful finish. Fantastic!"  4.5/5 Stars

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
