The new vintage of a Vivino favourite has arrived!

Once again, Tabano Bianco from Montecappone has been given a brilliant score of 99/100 from Luca Maroni (one of Italy's top critics) - this makes it 4 years in a row for this excellent white!

Consistently described by him as one of the 'Best Italian White Wines' and one of the best of any style from the Marche region, this unusual blend of Verdicchio, Sauvignon Blanc and Moscato Bianco is vibrant, intense and concentrated with beautiful fresh fruit, a refreshing acidity and a long, silky finish.

We've had to wait a while to get our hands on this new vintage and we've only been able to get limited amounts, but it is worth it. The Tabano Bianco is a wine that would grace any dinner table and for £15.50 it really is quite superb value!

About the wine

A brilliant straw-gold colour, Tabano has a nose full of ripe, tropical fruit - pineapple and mango - merging with white peach and jasmine. On the palate crisp, juicy apple is complented by floral notes and a fresh, lively acidity that leads into a soft, silky finish. Absolutely delicious, this is the perfect wine for drinking with seafood and would be a great match to Asian food.

Montecappone wanted to produce a complete white wine, where the aromas were just as intense as the taste, and hence Tabano was born. An unusual blend of 50% Verdicchio, 30% Moscato Bianco and 30% Sauvignon Blanc, it combines the fresh juicy fruit of those grapes with a complex floral quality.

To make the wine, a careful selection of only the best grapes on the vine is made, and the growth of the vine is restricted so that one vine produces no more than 3 bunches. Prior to fermentation the stems are separated from the berries, and the fermentation process takes place in the absence of oxygen. After fermentation, the wine is aged in stainless steel vats on its lees for 4 months, then bottled and further matured in storage for several months.

About the winery

Montecappone was founded in the late 1960s in Jesi. In 1997 the company was taken over entirely by the Bomprezzi - Mirizzi family and simultaneously the renovation and expansion of the existing winery and renewal of the vineyards began. The Bomprezzi - Mirizzi family have a huge passion for making quality wines They started out as winemakers in Rome in 1954 and now directly manage their own vineyards: some of the best of the region.

Montecappone currently has over 70 hectares of vineyards that stretch across the hills and castles around Jesi and the company's mission is to take the best native grape varieties, particularly the Verdicchio, Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes and make the best wine possible from them.

Careful selection of the grapes on the vines, low yields per hectare, experimentation in the vineyard and in the cellar, the technical contribution of respected consultantscombined with the "passion for wine" that has always been part of the family: these are the essential elements that distinguish the wines of Montecappone from the rest!

About the vineyard

Montecappone has 60 hectares of vineyards with white grapes taking up 45 of those. The vines are trained on low espaliers but with an extended leaf canopy that ensures a good ripening of the grapes. The focus is on healthy grapes and respect for the environment.

All vineyard operations are performed manually, starting from the short pruning that is performed to leave a limited number of buds, to trellissing that is done 3 times in the vineyard, to topping new shoots, which occurs in the period of May-June with the simultaneous elimination of any green clusters.

Harvesting is done manually and the grapes are then quickly transported to the winery where the more modern method of winemaking takes over.

"Delicious and fresh sweetness alla peach and elderberry perfectly balanced by the acidity from green apples.. complex and long aftertaste with spicy notes.. and great value for money 4.5/5 Stars (2016 vintage)

"Fruity-fresh nose of green apples, pineapple and passion fruit intermixed with Champagne-like notes of yeast and white toast. On the palate it is equally fresh with subdued green fruit, good acidity and a finishing grapefruit-bitterness. Like an imaginary cross between a young Spätlese and a tight Chablis. Absolutely lovely!"   4.5/5 Stars (2016 vintage)

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING
