Irresistibly ripe and lush with luxurious fruit and delicious spiciness, the Poggio Lauro Vecciano may not be a Super-Tuscan in price, but it certainly is one in quality and taste!

£15.75 is a great price for this immensely popular, award-winning Tuscan red. Multiple winner of “Best Italian Red Wine” and scored 99 points in Luca Maroni’s Annuario dei Migliori Vini Italiani, the wine has also been given a vat-full of praise from Vivino users.

The Barbanera family are clear about their mission – to deliver top quality wines at a competitive price and Vecciano is all that and more.

This is a wine that rarely makes it out of Italy due to its popularity, so we are very pleased to offer just a few hundred bottles to UK Vivino customers!

About the wine

Deep and intense red in colour with strong purple hues. The nose jumps out of the glass with aromas of dark, wild berries, sweet spices and delicate hints of vanilla, framed by some lovely spicy notes. This is quite striking on the palate due to its lush, soft, elegant body that still manages intensity and concentration. Full of ripe, sweet dark fruit this is a charming wine that is perfect for drinking right now - but would be even more perfect twinned with a BBQ on a summer evening!

One of the estate’s top labels, Vecciano is a blend of sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon, oak aged in large Slavonian barrels for 18 months.

About the winery

In the heart of Tuscany, between Montepulciano and Orvieto, lies the winery of the Barbanera family, founded in 1938 by Altero Barbanera and his wife Maria.

They had a beautiful piece of vineyard in the small village of Piazze, part of the municipality of Cetona. Here they started in a very modest way, but today their company has become a modern and international wine producer. Grandsons Marco and Paolo are at the helm and the focus is on making the best wine for the best price. Their many bestselling wines are widely praised by the critics.

About the vineyard

The vineyards are situated around the village of Piazze. The family bought the 9-hectare Vecciano site fairly recently, attracted by its south, south-westerly facing, hillside slopes. . The plots are planted with mainly sangiovese, but also some cabernet sauvignon and merlot. The dry climate with lots of sun and sufficient wind ensures a good ripening of the grapes. The soils have a good proportion of clay which retains scarce water for the grateful vines.

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
