The 2016 Tosone from Musita is a spectacular Nero d'Avola from Sicily with no less than 99 points from Italian wine critic and connoisseur Luca Maroni!

This is Signor Maroni's maximum score and of the circa 9000 wines he tastes per year, only 19 have been awarded the full 99 points. Tosone has now been awarded it two years in a row, making it one of his best Italian wines.

Exclusive to Vivino UK, this is an irresistible wine from the indigenous grape Nero d'Avola, with delicious aromas of ripe and juicy fruit, an elegant structure, and a soft, velvety finish full of dark chocolate and spice.

At just £16.75 per bottle, this is likely to fly out of the door.

Make sure you don't miss out on this excellent wine!

About the wine

Sicily is a country of contrasts. Truly everything is there : sun, sea, hills, snow, but above all a warm Mediterranean climate. The indigenous nero d'avola thrives here and is considered the best grape in Sicily.

At the peak of ripeness, the grapes are picked by hand, then carefully selected and brought to the basement in small containers of up to 15 kilos. There is first a cold soak for 72 hours to extract tannin and color. Thereafter the fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine sees a maturation of eight months in French oak barrels .

The result is amazing. Deep, dark plum red. A seriously aromatic nose with black cherries, red fruit, spice and dark chocolate. This is also reflected on the palate with its notes of braised plum and cherry fruit. Stunningly intense and concentrated, there are no hard edges to the wine and it is rounded and velvety in the mouth, The finish is long with more spice and some herbal notes. Absolutely delicious, it's nigh on irresistible!

About the winery

Musìta is a real family business. Located in the west of the beautiful Italian island of Sicily, between the cities Corleone and Marsala, near the village Salemi, it is run by the third generation of the Ardagna family.

Grandfather Ignazio planted his first vineyard on the slopes of the Musìta mountain in the late 19th century. The company is now run by grandson Giuseppe. He has renovated everything, expanded (from 50 to 125 hectares) and the wine is now completely made in-house, organically without the use of chemical pesticides. Everything is done to highlight the unique characteristics of the terroir in the wines.

About the vineyard

The vineyards of  Musìta are planted with typical Sicilian grape varieties such as catarratto, grillo and nero d'avola.

They are partly on slopes of the Musìta mountain, over 300 to 500 meters above sea level. The winery also owns vineyards in other hilly locations around the village of Salemi. The climate is ideal : warm, dry summers and mild winters. This allows grapes to mature completely without the use of pesticides.

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING
