Who said American wines had to be expensive? We are distinctly pleased to offer this bold, rich Californian Zinfandel at a fantastic price!

Zinfandel (aka Primitivo) is one of the most popular grapes with Vivino customers and that's no surprise given the lovely fruit-driven wines it produces in places like California and Southern Italy.

The Boneshaker Zinfandel is sourced from sustainably farmed, 40 year old vines in Lodi. With its vineyards full of gnarled old vines, this is the heartland of Californian Zinfandel.

Boneshaker is a wine of sheer hedonistic pleasure, full of the classic Zinfandel ripe, black fruit, sweet spice and a soft, creamy texture.

If you enjoy Puglia's intense Primitivo wines, you'll simply love the Boneshaker!

About the wine

Brick red and deep purple, the Boneshaker Zin is explosively aromatic with plum, black cherry, spice, pepper, vanilla and chocolate jumping out of the glass. After that stunning start, the wine just gets better and better... This is big, bold Zinfandel - rich, soft and full of the same dark fruit that is so prevalent on the nose. There are fine tannins and a fresh acidity but there are no sharp edges to this wine and everything comes together on the long, delicious finish with more of that ripe, jammy fruit and some wonderful sweet spice.

Whilst this top-notch example of Californian Zinfandel will last for another 3 or 4 years at least, it is perfect for drinking right now - just give it a little air and you're away!

About the winery

During the 1790s, Spanish missionaries recognized the rare soils and favourable climate of the Santa Lucia Highlands (SLH) of Monterey and planted grapevines there. Yet nearly two hundred years later when Hahn Family Wines founder Nicolaus (Nicky) Hahn and his wife Gaby first purchased land there, cattle, sheep and horses ranged over the hills. Vineyards were a secondary concern.

Nicky immediately saw that the land he’d purchased was destined for greater things than grazing stock. He wasted no time. In 1980, the Hahn’s released their first wine from SLH. A mere eight years later, Nicky led the charge to establish SLH as an American Viticultural Area, a dream he saw realized in 1991.

Today, Hahn Family Wines, now run by Nicky and Gaby’s son Philip, not only owns and sustainably farms 650 acres of estate vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands but also makes superb wines from some of California's great regions, such as Lodi and the Central Coast.

About the vineyard

Older vines make bolder Zins!

The main sources of this Zinfandel, the Bruella and Fathom Vineyards in Lodi, are home to vines over forty years old. These vines produce intense, robust Zinfandel with full flavors.

90 Points & 'Best Buy' - Wine Enthusiast
Flavorful but also gentle on the palate, despite the brand name, this is a lushly textured, full-bodied wine that lifts beautiful blueberry and blackberry flavors on fine-grained tannins. It has lightly spicy aromas, a mouthfilling viscosity and long finish."

90 Points - Decanter (2014 vintage)
A big, blossoming Zin that is blooming with fat fruit. Its lushness is complimented by sweet rosemary and menthol, whilst the bramble tones are underpinned by chocolate and kirsch wrapped in toasty oak."

"Quite amazing Zin! Bold bodied, blackberry and chocolate, oaky dark pepper spiced finish, long finish. I'd definitely choose this one again!" 4.0/5 Stars

"Smooth, full-bodied, Zin, reminding us of our love for the grape. Plums, chocolate, caramel, lush feeling in the mouth, smooth tannins. A delight!" 4.5/5 Stars

"Really delicious Zin. Dark cherries on the nose. Same on the palate light tannin. Light acidity. Some smokiness. Who’d definitely drink again." 4.0/5 Stars

"What Lodi old vine Zins are all about...I can't describe it without going into my usual rich-dark-fruit-chocolate-vanilla-leather-&-earth raptures...Great QPR for those unapologetic Zin lovers out there...you know who you are."  4.0/5 Stars

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
