"Lots of excitement here" Jancis Robinson

Exciting is definitely the word to describe this lovely red Burgundy!

Arnoux-Lachaux are making superbly rich, layered Burgundies with pure fruit, complex, intense aromas and fine, supple tannins. And this Nuits-St-Georges is no exception!

Created from 50 year old vines grown in one of the region's best vineyards, we love the wine’s elegance and brightness and the textured, long-lived fruit. Powerful, mineral and showing a class that can be rare in Nuits-St-Georges, this is an outstanding example of how good Premier Cru wines can be.

The quality of this Domaine's wines has soared in recent vintages and although they have always had great vineyards, the work in them (now organic and biodynamic) and in the winery (low intervention, natural fermentation, no fining or filtering) has improved beyond recognition.

Given great chance to pick up a top-notch red Burgundy at a brilliant price, 15% below the RRP.

About the wine

Made from 50 year old vines, Les Procès is a wonderful premier cru wine from Nuits St. Georges that has an impressive nose featuring dark cherry and plum fruit along with earthy spices such as cinnamon and liquorice. Dense, rich and generous on the palate with great intensity of fruit but no heaviness, it has supple, fine tannin and a fresh, vibrant acidity that frames a long, persistent and multi-flavoured finish. This is a fabulous red Burgundy that is into its drinking life, (although we'd recommend a decant) but should have an excellent decade or so ahead of it.

The winemaking is simple and low-intervention; low yields, destemming of the grapes and the use of a vertical press (rather than the more commonly found, pneumatic press) that Pascal and Charles  Lachaux prefer because it presses very gently and ultimately extracts less. The duo uses new oak judiciously (60% one-year-old, 40% new) for malolactic fermentation and aging and this ensures that there’s a nice weight to the wines without any loss of vibrancy.

About the winery

The name Arnoux has been well-known in Vosne Romanée since the mid-19th century. Since the early 1990s, Robert Arnoux's son-in-law Pascal Lachaux has been running the estate and in 2009, Pascal and Florence at long last made the subtle change in the naming of the Domaine to Arnoux-Lachaux.

Pascal has proved himself to be a very talented winemaker and his drive and ambition have ensured that the Domaine is now regarded amongst the top tier in Vosne-Romanée. The Domaine comprises some 14 hectares, with the highlights being the small Grand Cru holdings in Romanée St Vivant, Echézeaux, Latricières Chambertin and Clos de Vougeot and some excellent Premiers Crus, particularly Suchots, Reignots and Chaumes in Vosne Romanée and Corvées Pagets and Procès in neighbouring Nuits St Georges.

In 2011 Pascal's son Charles joined him at the domaine and has been in charge of vinification since the 2012 vintage. They have adopted biodynamic and organic practices in the vineyard and have invested in a cellar and winery upgrade that have all helped in the wines’ increasing popularity.

About the vineyard

Les Procès is an east-facing premier cru vineyard in Nuits-Saint-Georges, where the soils are clay and limestone. The vines are approximately 40 to 50 years old. The vines are tended organically and biodynamically, although there are no hard and fast rules, with decisions made on an ongoing basis, the focus always on securing the best possible fruit from every vintage.

"
A core of pure cherry resonates in this red, showing depth and precision. This is augmented by floral, spice and mineral accents, all integrated with the supple texture and dense structure. Shows fine length on the finish."

90-92 Points - Stephen Tanzer
"Bright full red. Reticent aromas of redcurrant and leather. Dense, sweet and sappy but youthfully imploded, hinting at black cherry and red and darker berries. Finishes with sweeter tannins and more length than the Arnoux village offerings"

89-92 Points - Allen Meadows
"His 2011’s are truly special...
A pungently earthy mélange of red currant, wild dark berries and spice hints merges into extract-rich, intense and palate coating medium-bodied flavors that are supported by firm but not hard tannins that evidence mild rusticity. There is very good power and excellent length with sufficient structure as to probably require up to a decade to resolve it. A classic Nuits."

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
