"Querciabella stands head and shoulders above any other estate in Chianti Classico. It’s as simple as that” Antonio Galloni

Farmed organically since 1988 and biodynamically since 2000,  Querciabella have always been ahead of the times. It is this forward thinking dynamism that has made them perhaps the best estate in Chianti.

Internationally acclaimed for their elegance, balance and purity of flavour, Querciabella's wines show the ‘Burgundian side of Sangiovese’.

Beautifully ripe fruit notes of cherry, red berries and plum meld with soft, fine tannins to create a rich wine that is vibrant, long and absolutely delicious to drink.

With a 17% reduction from the usual UK selling price, this is a terrific chance to secure one of Italy’s best Chianti Classico wines at just £21.49 per bottle.

About the wine

This supremely attractive, delicious-to-drink Chianti is laden with perfumed red berry, plum and cherry fruits on the nose. With good concentration and depth, the tannins and refreshing acidity are neatly woven in this perfectly balanced wine. Perfumed and showing a touch of spice, it’s a treat from beginning to end. Just how good Chianti should taste!

Grapes were hand harvested and placed in to 8kg crates to be transported to the winery where they were de-stemmed and put in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats for maceration and fermentation. The wine is aged in oak barriques and tonneaux which are all French. A small (5%) proportion of the barrels are new but the majority are either second or third-fill. Here the wine stays for 14 months after which the best lots are selected through extensive tastings and then assembled to create the final blend.

About the winery

Founded in 1974, Querciabella enjoys the acclaim of the world’s most discriminating critics and consumers for its exquisite range of biodynamic wines including Camartina, Batàr, Palafreno, Querciabella Chianti Classico and Mongrana.

In its uncompromising pursuit of quality, sustainability and authenticity, Querciabella has continually honed its approach to biodynamic viticulture for over a decade, with vineyards located throughout Tuscany’s Chianti Classico and Maremma areas. Thanks to Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni’s vision and leadership, Querciabella exemplifies the preservation of tradition through forward-thinking, albeit completely natural, winemaking.

About the vineyards

Querciabella has the good fortune to own 74 hectares of vineyards in some of the most highly sought after areas of Chianti Classico - Greve, Panzano, Radda and Gaiole. The estate is one of the largest biodynamically farmed vineyards in Italy.

Querciabella’s interpretation of biodynamic agriculture is well-considered and pragmatic. Winemaker Sebastiano Castiglioni does not embrace the astrological side of biodynamics or “any New Age nonsense” but he has studied data on the effects of lunar forces on plant development and is convinced of its efficacy.

About the winemaker

Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni was born in 1966 in Milan. Under the tutelage of his father Giuseppe Castiglioni, Sebastiano was introduced at an early age to the world of fine wine.

A lifelong passion for great winemaking matched by a strong commitment to the environmental movement inspired Sebastiano to convert Querciabella to organic viticulture in 1988 and to biodynamics in 2000. This uncompromising vision and pioneering spirit has confirmed Querciabella as a leader among the greatest wineries of the world. Sebastiano is also an accomplished industrial designer and the creator of a multinational business network encompassing fields as diverse as agriculture, financial advisory, advanced technology, real estate and fine art.

17/20 - Walter Speller

Lustrous, youthful ruby. Perfumed menthol raspberry and redcurrant nose. Minty raspberry fruit on the palate, but perfectly balanced by tannins and integrated acidity. While the oak might seem a little upfront, this is a truly seductive wine."

91 Points - James Suckling

A serious red with blueberry, plum and cherry aromas and flavors. Medium body. Clean finish. Made from biodynamically grown grapes"

90+ Points - Antonio Galloni

The 2014 Chianti Classico offers striking purity of fruit and terrific overall balance, especially for the year. Sweet red cherry, plum, spice and lavender are pushed forward. This is an especially fruity, mid-weight vintage for the estate's Chianti Classico, not to mention a commendable effort for the vintage...The expressive savory/saline finish only adds to the wine's considerable appeal."

"2014 vintage. Excellent organic - biodynamic Chianti Classico made of 100% Sangiovese grapes. Aged for 12 months in 100% French oak. Very dark colored. Aromas of black fully riped berries, black cherries, herbs, spices, and tar. Robust body, round tanins, and a long finish"  4/5 Stars

"Lovely Tuscan. Elegant and beautifully structured"  4/5 Stars

"This wine is well made and utterly delicious. Reflecting its young age the fruit profile is quite juicy with a cherry fingerprint. Additionally there's some herbaceousness adding complexity. The finish has drying, but ripe tannins and a slight cherry stone bitterness. I'm also amazed by the high intensity to be found. Highly recommended." 4/5 Stars

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
