Freshly arrived in the UK, and following in the footsteps of our popular Fino offer, we are very pleased to offer the 2018 release of Lustau's fantastic 'En Rama' Manzanilla de Sanlúcar de Barrameda

"En Rama” means that the sherry is drawn directly from the cask and bottled with absolutely minimal filtration or stabilisation.

The closest you can come to tasting at the bodega itself, 'En Rama' sherries are electrifying wines of huge personality that shout of the microclimate of the town in which they were aged.

Just 1000 bottles were released of this delicious, refreshing Manzanilla, sourced from the coastal town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda.

Situated on the estuary of the Guadalquivir river, the sea breeze and the cooler climate combine to give the wines a beautiful freshness and an incredible saline note that sings of the Atlantic coast.

This sherry was chosen for release by Lustau's oenologist Manuel Lozano, who for an incredible seven consecutive years has been awarded Best Fortified Winemaker of the Year by the International Wine Challenge...

Incredibly complex and absolutely delicious, sherries like this are some of the most undervalued wines in the world and at just £16.25, this amazing Manzanilla is a huge bargain.

About the wine

This is classic Manzanilla, aged in the coastal town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, displays a beautiful freshness and salinity as the sea breezes and humidity result in a very thick layer of flor. Classic notes of almonds, yeast and hay are accompanied by a citrus twist and a delicate minerality.

Incredibly complex and utterly enjoyable, it is clear to see why so many people think wines like this are massively undervalued

Three cities make up the Jerez Triangle - Sanlúcar de Barrameda, El Puerto de Santa María and Jerez de la Frontera. Sanlúcar and El Puerto are coastal cities, close to the Atlantic Ocean and the rivers Guadalquivir and Guadalete and are influenced by the ocean. Jerez is located further inland with a somewhat drier climate.

Bodegas Lustau, located in Jerez, is the only company in the Jerez Region to age sherries and manzanillas in the three cities - authentic wines that express the characteristics of each city and even of the bodega where the cask is held.

This Manzanilla, selected for its tipicity and genuineness, is aged under “flor” in American oak casks for five years and bottled straight from the cask without any treatment.

About the winery

Bodegas Lustau was founded in 1896 by Mr. José Ruiz-Berdejo. It was a modest beginning: José, a court clerk, cultivated the vines on his land, known as Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza. In the house at the vineyard, he produced the wines he later sold to the major exporting wineries, a profession known as “almacenista”.

His son-in-law Emilio Lustau Ortegamoved the winery to the old neighbourhood of Santiago, in the historic quarter of Jerez de la Frontera. There, in buildings that formed part of the historic Moorish walls of the city, he slowly began to expand the business, still as a “almacenista”. In 1950, the company began exporting its own sherry wines.

In recent years, Lustau has been honoured and recognised with several awards; it was named "Best Spanish Producer" in 2011 at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in London and Lustau's oenologistManuel Lozano, has been named Best Fortified Winemaker of the Year an incredible seven years in a row by the International Wine Challenge .

About the vineyard

Sanlúcar de Barrameda sits on the estuary of the Guadalquivir river with Atlantic breezes coming off the ocean. Its microclimate impregnates the yeasts growing on the surface of the Manzanilla with a rare sea salt character.

"
Briny and lively with wild herbs and grasses and an umami element. Juicy, dry but chewy too, lots to get your teeth into. Super-moreish and long."

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
