"This is perhaps the greatest Purple Angel ever"  99/100 points, James Suckling
"Purple Angel will make you feel as though you've gone to heaven aloft a cloud of sensory pleasure"  99/100 points, Natalie MacLean
Approaching perfection, the 2015 Purple Angel is one of Chile's greatest wines!
Stunningly rich, concentrated and silken, it is little wonder that Purple Angel has garnered a cult following for every release of this brilliant wine.
Only made from the best grapes grown in two of the finest vineyards in the Colchagua Valley, this wonderful wine not only has the critics salivating, but is a firm favourite with Vivino reviewers.
Over 11,000 reviewers have give the wine a huge 4.4 stars - and although only recently released, this vintage gets that same score from over 300!
“Wonderful wine, simply stunning...”
"Wow, heavenly..."
"Beautiful elegant and silky wine..."
Because of the wine's popularity, it is rather hard to get of and we had to call in a lot of flavours just to get a small allocation for Vivino customers.
This will not last long! We highly recommend you pick some up whilst you still can...
About the wine
This is a deep, opulent, concentrated wine that captures the spectacular richness of carmenère. Hugely impressive on the nose it has generous, alluring aromas of blackberry, redcurrant and sweet spices. The palate is dense and layered with sweet, chocolate-coated fruit along with spice and floral notes. Spectacularly silky and polished, it is a powerful, decadent wine but one that still retains a muscular elegance. "A whole new dimension for carmenère.” say Montes. We couldn't agree more!
Only perfect berries made the final cut for Purple Angel, all cold soaked for ten days to extract aromas and colour. Fermentation took place in stainless steel for eight days, after which the wine spent 15 to 20 days on the skins for structure and colour. The wine was aged in 100% new French oak for 18 months. The 8% of petit verdot that’s added to the wine is there for spice, structure, colour and acidity.
About the winery
Montes was established in 1988 by Aurelio Montes, Douglas Murray, Alfredo Vidaurre and Pedro Grand, with the aim of producing the best wines in Chile from the best regions. Every aspect of production – from vineyard to winery - is meticulously managed and their global reputation for excellence is well-deserved.
Opened in 2004 the Apalta winery is modern both in looks and technology. Designed by the Chilean architect, Samuel Claro, it has outstanding views over the vineyards.
About the vineyard
The grapes for Purple Angel come from Montes' own vineyards in Apalta and Marchigüe, arguably two of the finest sites in the Colchagua Valley
In Apalta the vines are planted on steep slopes, where they benefit from good exposure to achieve optimal ripeness. Cool ocean breezes and low night-time temperatures moderate these warm areas, permitting slow ripening, thereby ensuring terrific varietal aromas and acidity. Marchigüe is slightly cooler, being closer to the ocean. All grapes were hand harvested.

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
